Chances at Regular School or Wharton

My SAT's are 1500 (720 & 780)
My GPA is 3.7 (I have a reason) (hardest courses)

My ranking is not known as my school does not rank. very small school.
Also, if anyone could suggest any other schools that would be awesome.

My reason for a low GPA and so many business ventures is becuase my mother was pregnant during my freshman yr. She had a miscarraige and then got pregnant again. She is very high risk and was bedridden. This is my essay. Ive been told by many people its very good and "gripping."

I wanted to apply to Some IVYs, but my GPA is really low for them. What do any of you think?

Current Classes are AP Physics, AP Calc, AP Stats, Honors English, Honors History

Will take SAT II in Bio, Math IC, Lit (above 680 in all)

Here is my exact resume i will be sending to the schools and my essay will be very good and explain low GPA and other events. What are my chances at:

i like how you called the college the "regular school".

OK im sorry... i was just saying either the CAS or Wharton. I dont konw the specific names

Are you a minority?

Are you sure you listed ALL of your awards and didn't miss any of the "student of the month" or "best citizen" ones?

You shouldn't be asking for chances for Wharton and CAS...the kids that get into either are the ones that actually want to be studying the liberal arts or business, not the ones that want to get into Wharton but will settle for the college if it's a safer bet. That being said, good luck!

You worked seven jobs and volunteered at five different places your junior year? Somehow I don't find that very believable...

Well... if your putting my work into questoin ill be happy to explain. The jobs with the * are self employed jobs. I make my own hours and work at a job by job pace. The others are all part time and i put about 20 hours into each a week. Its not hard when its something that is easy to do for you.

bs

the sheer number of things make it hard to believe it all can add up like that

unless your recs indicate you are the craziest work horse the world has ever seen, be prepared for skepticism

clean up the activities. the assorted hospital tasks should all be one line - same for the computer stuff. when I say that I did theater in hs, I don't go "drove to school. walked through door. got on stage. acted. cleaned up."

3 APs AND all those things and jobs AND sports?

Why do I find that hard to believe...

Don't forget that he also has to do all the housework since his mom's bedridden.

While I don't necessarily share the skepticism of some of the other posters regarding your activities (many of these seem like the type where you probably have an hour or two per week of commitment and so don't really take up your time), your resume to me right now shows some inability to prioritize. Aside from the issues with your mother, your grades could easily be explained by your decision to be involved with every extracurricular under the sun rather than focus on your classwork.

More importantly however, you definately need to edit down your list of activities that you plan on putting on your application. Some of the stuff that's on there is so minute and ticky-tack that it will obscure the numerous excellent things you have listed (self-employed Xbox customization? come on). Overall though, provided that you have a strong upward trend in your grades following your situation freshman year, I think you have a reasonable chance at getting into a top school, provided your presentation is effectively and tastefully done.

Im not even going to comment on the people who question my mothers experience or my list in general.

Your right philly, most things are for a few hours a day. Im glad you could realize this. What do you suggest i remove. The xbox thing is important becuase i did it to make extra income while my mother was pregnant, and the fact i taught myself the inner workings of a system. It may seem trivial, but it was important to me. What else do you think i should get rid of.

My situation was freshman and sophomore year. She was pregnant for, essentially, 22 months with recovery time and time between

keep in mind that sanctimony will get you nowhere in the admissions process...

this still does not answer the question about your trend in grades - this as absolutely critical to your potential success in admissions.

Also, I would be EXTREMELY careful about discussing your situation at home too much, as you don't want to appear one-dimensional. On a more cynical note, an admissions officer may question what sort of person dedicates so much of their time to extracurriculars when they have such a situation at home (i doubt that they would actually think in this way, but keep in mind it is certainly a possibility).

"The others are all part time and i put about 20 hours into each a week. Its not hard when its something that is easy to do for you."

This is what I call bs on. 20 hours into EACH?

"math 1c"
wharton is really looking for level 2 math

I meant about 20 hours each week. I agree... no way do i perform 20 hours per week per EACH ec.

I didnt even realize i was asked about my grades.

My Gpa has been 3.5, 3.5, 3.7, and the first semester of senior year (so far) is looking to be a 4.2 or above

wait, this 3.5, 3.5, 3.7 is your weighted GPA? if so, I'd hate to say it, but your chances are very, very slim.

^Seconded. Open up your list to include some places like carnegie mellon, UI-UC, harvey mudd, or wash u. Also include some regional schools (ie Drexel for Philly) These are schools that don't have the crazy expectations of ivies, but still offer the same quality of education.
