Chances at Rice? Do I have a shot?

I know chance threads are annoying and that they dont guarantee any admissions decision (I applied ED to Rice) ... but my nerves are really getting to me

I am a senior at a very competitive and prestigious private high school in Houston, TX. We don't use the typical GPA scale, so I am not sure on how to calculate my Weighted and Unweighted GPA. I am in the top 10% of my class, and have taken a very rigorous academic schedule and have had all A's in my classes

Essays: Wrote my common app essay on my experience at the Hajj (a Muslim ritual) and how it lead to me being on the radio and wanting to help others. Wrote my supplement on how I went against my extended family to attend my current school (they wanted me to attend our local public school) and how my interest in both classics and the sciences parallels the cohesion of Islamic and Western culture in my life.

Hooks: I am applying as a Classics Major?!?, first-generation college student, took Greek, did well in actual course at Rice U and will have a Rice rec

I really love Rice and wanted to know if I had a shot at admissions. Applied ED, but my nerves are really getting to me... what do y'all think? Do I have a shot? Does applying as a Classics Major ameliorate my chances? Or the fact that I am Muslim and have played an active role in the religion in Houston?

You have an excellent shot, and I would be fairly surprised if you weren’t accepted. Definitely no need for worry, if you are deferred or rejected (again, very unlikely), you also have a great shot at other top schools. That being said, I am also applying ED to Rice, so my knowledge is limited.

Would you mind my asking what school you attend? I live in Houston as well.

Your chances are great!

you have very good chances of getting in. A few kids got in from my school last year and their stats (not counting gpa) were not as good as yours.

Thanks to all those that replied… really appreciate it! If you dont mind me asking, what was y’alls reasoning in your decisions, because, I could just be way too harsh on myself, but I dont consider myself anything more than the ‘average’ applicant for such a university as competitive at Rice

Any other opinions of my chances at Rice?

THANKS!!!

buuuuuuuuuuuuuump

i would agree with you that you stats and scores are considered average for a Rice student and you being an ORM doesnt help you at all BUT your ECs are extremely impressive and if you portrayed your essays in a passionate manner you should have a good shot at Rice

I see no other area you could improve your resume for college. In fact, with those credentials, you have a very high chance of admission at even more elite colleges such as the Ivies. Of course, that is assuming you wish to apply to other colleges besides Rice. In all truth, Rice U. is an outstanding college and I would be completely shocked if you were denied. I think your ethnicity will catch Rice’s attention especially because they seek high achieving students from all backgrounds, not just white for example. If you applied early decision, you are a sure bet for admission because your credentials are top notch. Keep up the good work and best of luck admission-wise with Rice!

PS: Be sure to post if you got admitted to Rice or not.

Any opinions from students who were accepted into Rice previously or who attend the school currently?

THANKS!!!

Like i said to the other kid. Calm down dude. We get decisions in a week. It doesnt matter what we think or current rice students think, they arent the ones who admit you or not. Just be patient and you’ll know soon enough :)

buuuuuuuuuuuuump

buuuuuuuuuuuuump

can you please stop bumping this you ahve less than a week so just CHILL! You cant do anything right now so just do something productive(like school work) to take your mind off of it
and its kind of annoying whenever you bump a thread every day FYI.

Your stats are too good, 2 foreign languages, and I take it you also speak Arabic?
Try even better schools.
