I'm a senior at a large public high school in Iowa. Rice is my first choice school and I have already applied there Interim Decision. My parents are both graduates of Rice, and I have several other family members who went there.

I just took my Sat 2 tests, literature, writing and math IC, but I haven't yet received my scores.

My school only offers 5 AP courses, and I have taken four of them ( I did not take AP economics.) Other than that I have taken the most rigorous course load available to me.

My EC's aren't all that impressive. I was a reporter for my school newspaper as a junior and I am the executive editor now as a senior. It is easily one of the best high school publications in the midwest. Being exec is my biggest academic achievement. I am also a four year member of the school orchestra and I have been playing the violin since fourth grade, and the guitar for 4 or 5 years.

I plan on applying to some midwest schools such as macalester, grinnell, carleton and michigan, but Rice is my first choice and I would really like to go there. As of right now I would like to be a political science major. Even though my test scores are low and I haven't been very involved with school activities, do you think I have a shot at getting in?
