Chances at Rice

I'm a senior at a large public high school in Iowa. Rice is my first choice school and I have already applied there Interim Decision. My parents are both graduates of Rice, and I have several other family members who went there.

SAT 1
Math:690
Verbal:670

I just took my Sat 2 tests, literature, writing and math IC, but I haven't yet received my scores.

GPA: 3.968 Unweighted
Rank: 24 out of 359

My school only offers 5 AP courses, and I have taken four of them ( I did not take AP economics.) Other than that I have taken the most rigorous course load available to me.
Junior year schedule:
Advanced newspaper
US lit honors
Pre-calc honors
Symphony orchestra
Chemistry honors
French IV/V honors

Senior year schedule:
Advanced newspaper
AP English
AP calc AB
AP government
Symphony orchestra
Physics honors

My EC's aren't all that impressive. I was a reporter for my school newspaper as a junior and I am the executive editor now as a senior. It is easily one of the best high school publications in the midwest. Being exec is my biggest academic achievement. I am also a four year member of the school orchestra and I have been playing the violin since fourth grade, and the guitar for 4 or 5 years.

I plan on applying to some midwest schools such as macalester, grinnell, carleton and michigan, but Rice is my first choice and I would really like to go there. As of right now I would like to be a political science major. Even though my test scores are low and I haven't been very involved with school activities, do you think I have a shot at getting in?

Check out that and see how you fit in...I'd say your chances are pretty good, considering the fact that you applied ID and that you have such a strong family connection to the school. Hopefully you did pretty well on those SAT2's.

you have pretty much the same shot as me. my SAT is 1370, but my uw gpa is 3.71, and w gpa is 3.91....

i applied ID too. They accept 28% of the ID applicants, and i think being from Iowa will help you. good luck!

Hey thanks. I hope to see both of you there.

Anyone else?
