What are my chances and what needs the most improving?

I'd say you have a decent, pretty good shot, but make sure you do well on your essays because honestly, nothing stands out that much. Being first generation college bound does make you more unique though, so that may make a good hook.

As for money, it's definitely possible that you will get some merit aid (being 1st or 2nd in class and being first generation to attend college). Rice will also meet 100% of your demonstrated need.

you will pretty much get full ride to college. under 30k they meet ur full need with all grants an no loans. do somethign different that sets you out...they are gonna see the same clubs for everybody.

I know someone who got into rice that's only a top 10 in her class, number 7 or 8 I think...

But the reason she got in was because she was really involved in band. So the academics will not guarantee you a free ride into rice, although you do have a lot of community service and volunteering...but you need to do some more if you want to stand out from all the applicants...

It'll be tough since you're out of state too but good luck, I'll see you there in 2 more years :)
