If I do manage to get in, do you think I will get merit money?
Thanks!

youre in.......... def. in

Only merit money you'd get is from National Merit. Rice doesn't particularly do merit aid, except for some departmental merit scholaships that you can receive later on, but if you put Rice down as your first choice if/when you make it to the national merit finals, and you get into Rice and choose to go there, then you'll automatically be given a National Merit Scholarship from Rice. The amount of money for that is on a sliding need-based scale (if they haven't changed how it works in the past few years) with $750/semester being the lowest amount given.

Rice gives merit aid - look back in the archives. A bunch of kids recieved merit aid this year. It's completely in the realm of possibility that you'd get some, but it's not likely for anyone, so don't count on it.

I don't think he's definitely in. I've know people at my highschool (also a competitive highschool..US News Ranking Top Highschools) who had amazing stats, but got rejected at Rice, but into Harvard and Princeton.

Really? Hunh! Good to know. =)

I would say that nothing on your resume so far detracts from your chances, but you must still have strong short answers and a great essay, along with teacer recommendations, but it seems that you wouldn't have too much trouble with that. I had stats like that, with higher test scores but practically ZERO community service, and I got in, but I have a feeling my essay did a lot of the work.
