One of my essay prompts for UCs and one of the essay prompts for common apps is the same. Is it possible if I could reuse the UC essay but configure it to fit the common app prompt? Some of the paragraphs I put in the UC prompt are exactly how it is in the common app prompt.
That should be fine. ^^^^
The UC Freshman admission stats says:
-Complete a minimum of 15 college-preparatory courses (“a-g” courses), with at least 11 finished prior to the beginning of your senior year. For a full list of “a-g” requirements and information on courses in California high schools that meet the requirements, please see the Office of the President’s A-G Policy Resource Guide.
-Earn a grade point average (GPA) of 3.00 or better (3.40 or better for a non-resident of California) in these courses with no grade lower than a C.
However, I have a D in Precalculus Honors. So I can’t be eligible for UCs?
How many a-g courses do you completed now? Most UC applicants have more than the minimum than 11 by end of Junior year. Can you list your classes 9-11th?
Regarding the D in Precalculus. If you take a higher level Math course senior year and pass with a C or higher, then your D in Pre-Calc is validated meaning you meet the Math requirements. However, unless you repeat the exact same class, your D is calculated into your UC GPA and this could impact your chances. So what is your UC GPA capped weighted now? Did you repeat the course? What Math are you taking Senior year?
My classes in 9th grade were
-HONORS ENGLISH
-ALGEBRA 1
-BIOLOGY HONORS
-PE
-PLTW
-SPANISH 2
10th Grade:
-Honors English
-Algebra 2/Trig
-Chem Honors
-Geometry
-Spanish 3
-World History
11th Grade:
-PreCalc Honors( D second semester)
-English Honors
-AP Biology
-AP Physics 1
-US History
-Anatomy
12th Grade:
-AP Gov
-Advanced Anatomy
-English 12
-Health (Didn’t take 9th grade)
-PE(didnt take 10th grade because of two math classes)
-Normal Calc or Intro the Stats(I can switch…which one should I take)
Also, could I do early action for Cal Poly Ponoma (because I have a D) for a higher chance?
Cal Poly Pomona does not have Early action only Regular Decision. If you submit your application early in October, you are local and meet a specific EI threshold, you could hear earlier than February/March. Both my son’s were local to CPP and heard in January of their acceptance.
Regarding a-g courses, you have 16 a-g courses completed by end of Junior year not counting Pre-Calc. So how does your D impact your Capped weighted UC GPA since you are not retaking the class Senior year? I would take Regular Calculus instead.
I have a GPA of 3.59 because of Precalc Honors (Since a D doesn’t count as weighted).
The counselors at our school don’t really help in switching classes so I have a 50/50 chance of getting Calc instead of Intro to Stats. If I stay with Intro to stats, what will happen?
Pomona asks for 3 years of math, but I took 2 math classes in 10th and one in 9th. So does that count as 3 years of math?
Yes
