Chances at RPI

Just curious of my chances at RPI (Rensselaer Polytech)

GPA weighted- I cant say for sure what it is on a 4.0 scale but on a 100 scale its an 88.6

SAT scores- 670M 580 CR - overall 1250, retaking in a week, im pretty sure im gonna get over 700M and over 600CR

ECs- Average, nothing GREAT
Volunteer Work- Tutor younger kids in math..6 hours a week
Awards- 9th, 10th and 11th grade award called (Certificate of Achievement for academic excellence)

Ok, Ok, no sarcasm.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute: Reach

Try to visualize an admissions officer going through your application. What would make him want to send you an acceptance letter? Have you applied yourself wholeheartedly in high school? Have you devoted your free hours to meaningful community service? And most importantly, if Notre Dame somehow beats USC, will there be a repeat match between Ohio State and Michigan?

Just think about these things.

Your chances are alright, not terrific. Thankfully your math scores are higher which is good for RPI.

We just visited RPI a few weeks ago. My impression: they like to see really strong numbers in one area or another. Can you get those SATs up over 1300? Can you get the math up over 700? Whether you can or you can't, your numbers are on the edge for them, so play up your EC strengths. Even if you think they're not that great, they could look good in the context of other RPI applicants--from the info session it seemed to me like they get applicants with very good numbers who think that's all they need, but RPI would like to include some better-rounded applicants who write interesting essays or who interview well or who have good "outreach" kinds of ECs, like you.

RPI's a reach.

look at RIT, WPI, etc
