Chances at RSI/SHARP + 1 Question

What are my chances for RSI or SHARP or programs like these??
Here are the big things about me:

PSAT 229 (80M 73CR 76W)
SAT I: 1550 (800M 750V)
AP Calc BC as a soph (5)
Currently in AP Phys/Chem
Siemens Westinghouse Regional Finalist
A+ in Math Structures course at a university (MAT 300)
Currently in Number Theory (MAT 445) and Differential Equations (MAT 274)
Took Multivariable calc last semester
AMC 12B 2004 = 105.5
AIME 2004 = 2
Some small awards in local Sci Fairs (3rd place-ish)

1 excellent rec for sure (i.e. the teacher himself told me "with that letter and form, I don't know how they won't accept you." [of course, he didn't really understand how competitive RSI is]) plus one rec from a teacher that always called me hopeforthefuture as a name, but very jokingly.

Now for the "+ 1 Question" part:

Is SHARP the 2nd best program (right under RSI)? Meaning, if I get into other programs AND SHARP but not RSI, should I go to SHARP for sure? Also, (I guess this constitutes a 2nd question) what other programs should I apply to that I might consider going to? I have heard of Garcia, but what others are there?

bump......?

Ive no idea what SHARP or RSI are. But I can say that if those are real stats, and you arent just playing around, you've got a pretty good chance of going wherever you want to go. Trust me.

RSI and SHARP are not colleges. They are much more competitive and look for different things. Thank you for your support, but I might not have such a good shot at RSI.

Well, as a basis for comparison, staticsoliloquy got into RSI with only a SAT of 1310. He had Siemens Westinghouse.

i didn't have any competition at all.

Static had NIH.

So is SHARP really the 2nd best?

it's not about first best or second best. What do YOU think?

I think it's almost impossible to predict acceptance to RSI. It's so amazingly competetive.

dang.. ppl like you are going to push me out of SHARP..
;-(

Good luck with RSI though

The good thing about SHARP is that the top 130 or so are skimmed off the top since many RSI applicants probably apply to SHARP.

And the reason I'm asking if SHARP is 2nd best is because I do not know much about these programs and what kind of research is done, etc.

yes SHARP is the second best
RSI is #1, SHARP is #2

the one thing that SHARP offers that RSI does not have is the ability to have internships available to you when in college. One summer in college i will be an intern at Boeing in LA. Im sure not all Sharpies get this because most work at a university and not at a job site. But I can tell you that everyone from NASA SHARP CSULA has an internship ready for them at Fortune 100 companies.

RSI - if you get in and do it then you will have 99% chance of getting into MIT, if this was where you would want to attend college

Does SHARP look good on college apps?

yes (10 character limit)

Zogoto ~ I am familiar with RSI, and I think you have a good chance, except that the odds for any particular individual are so low...but your stats look good to me. What areas did you/ will you slelect as your #1 and #2 choics at RSI? Math?

It might be that what you select as your preferred subject areas will be critical: if RSI gets 100 "super kids" with your same expectations, that might overwhelm the number of available mentors...

zogoto you better hope that RSI doesnt test for common sense

You question:

"Does SHARP look good on college apps?"

How can SHARP not look good if its the 2nd best summer program.
You may be able to get higher sat scores than most but how are you going to survive if your not walked through every step.

To answer your next question: Yes RSI will look good for college apps.
DumbA$$

hahaha no, because SHARP may be like the other college summer programs which you just go to and are not selective. I do not know so much about SHARP.

And I did not put math for my field/subfield on the RSI app. Do you think this will hurt my chances? I put it in the field that I entered into Siemens Westinghouse and got Regional Finalist with: marine biology. My secondary is industrial engineering and it has a lot of math in it.

just giving you a hard time

hahaha alright man. Anyone else?
