I have a 1980 on the SAT-took it once
Heavy classes- Junior year-AP Gov't and Politics
-senior year- AP Bio and AP Euro History
3.42 GPA unweighted on a 4.6 scale

EC's
I have more than a hundred hours of volunteering at a hospital
i am an active participant of JSA (debate) and the Asian club
participated in an exchange program with Japanese kids
worked at CompUSA, Kumon Tutoring services as a tutor, a basketball scorekeeper in the township

I am a junior going to be a senior - Class of 2007

The GPA is kinda low. The SAT score will balance that out at Rutgers, but the other 2 are a bit of a reach. Try retaking the SAT to improve your chances, because there's not much you can do with your GPA at this point.

What kind of class rank does that translate into? I would think that you would still have a reasonable shot at PSU and UMD and should be in at Rutgers. ECs really don't matter at all for PSU.

You definitely have a good shot at Penn State! Your GPA isn't that low for them, and your SAT scores are well above their average. In-state you should be into Rutgers as well. Maryland will be the toughest, but you're close

proportionatly that is a 2.97 UW on a 4.0 scale. That will hurt a bit but your SATs are good. What is your weighted GPA? UMD's average W was a 3.96 and their SATs were 1240-1380. Your SAT should fall right about in the middle. I think you are going to be in at Rutgers, you have a great shot at PSU if you have a good W, and a reach at UMD.

o yeah...last question, besides SAT, GPA, and sometimes EC's are there anything else considered in the college admittance process( like course load)?

Course load is very important. Essays are important as well, although private schools seem to place more importance on them, in general, when compared to state schools. Teacher recs are also a factor

I'd say the main six factors are: GPA, course load, SAT, ECs, essay, and recs. Which are the most important depends on the school

Thanks everybody for all ur help...
so what everyone says is like this
Rutgers NB-match
Penn State- match/semi-reach
Maryland and TCNJ- reach
if i get a higher SAT score like a 2100 will my chances to get into Maryland increase...Thanks again for everyone's help

You have a great shot of getting into Penn State don't worry. Take it from a Philly native Penn State is pretty sweet on admissions. I got in with lower SAT's and a B average. I know a kid enrolled there now with 13 or 1400's on the new SAT. The good news is on the off chance you don't make it into the main campus right away you can still transfer after your first year from a smaller campus. If you do this I recommend Penn State Altoona it has the nicest dorms.

PSU Main may be tougher this year since they accepted too many students last year. Apply early and say you'll go in the summer. Both increase your chances. You may get Altoona - but that's not so bad.
