I applying to the New Brunswick College of Arts & Sciences

They requested my 7th semester grades and I sent them yesterday. Does anyone know if that's a good sign or a bad sign? (most people dont need to send their 7th semester grades)

Stats:

GPA: 2.84 on something similar to a 7-point scale.

SAT: 2010/2400, 1370/1600 (650R 720M 640W)

EC's:
Tech Team student leader
A+ certified professional computer technician
Lots of volunteer work (mission trips, church work)
Developed database-driven homework website for teachers and students.
Decent essay
Great reccomendation from technology teacher.

Im pretty nervous about this, my GPA is far below everyone else on here. Luckily, my school doesn't do rank. (My schol has great stats and my rank wouldnt reflect my GPA)

yeah... it is you gpa that is the problem. They want to see you 7th semester grades because you are borderline. It can go either way, with the gpa you have about 50-60% chance.

Yea I am form Jersey (passaic county). I had a 2.858 first 3 years and like a 2.75 7th semester.

I also have 4 years of math and am taking calculus and physics this year, as well as a full course load, if that matters.

My 7th smester is pretty much consistent with the rest of HS although I did get about a half-grade better in classes I take every year (C avg in english, I got a B-, B- avg in Health, i got a B+ etc.)

EDIT:

Sorry for being unclear about my GPA. By "7 point scale" I mean 93-100 is an A, etc. It is still out of 4.0.

keep in mind the great reccomendation didnt come until after my 7th semester grades were requested and while i did 0.1 worse than my previous gpa, I was taking harder classes.

You said you did worse than your previous GPA... How far did you fall? Also in terms of Rutgers accepting kids with less then 3.0 you would need a pretty high SAT score to off set that.

My 7th semester gpa was about 2.71/4.0 and my total GPA only fell about 0.05 points. I was also taking harder classes (physics) so the grades are basically the same as the rest of high school.

My sat is pretty good (1370/1600, 2010/2400) and I'm hoping this will offset the low GPA. I also have very strong EC's that show I am self motivated and I have leadership positions in numerous computer-related groups.

My essay was decent and I have a great rec from a teacher that loves me.

Well 2.71 with a 2010 SAT score, your admission is not secured but you do have a chance (50%). You should start looking at some schools that you know that you will be able to get into if Rutgers does not work out.

my gpa isn't 2.71, its ~2.84. 2.71 was my 7th semester.

I have applied to NJIT whsih I am farely sure ill get into because they have weaker requirements and I have attended a camp there over the summer and am enrolled in 3 competitions there next month.

I think rutgers is my first choice though, which is why I am pretty nervous.

I understand that your GPA is 2.8. But even with that you were borderline which is why the asked for you 7th semester grades and that semester GPA is lower.

Alright well thanks for responding. Ive looked at a couple scattergrams from schools similar to mine (parochial NJ schools). In all the scattergrams i've looked at, noone has been rejected that has atleast my SAT score. On the other hand, although they are a few, most people with a 2.8 or lower get rejected. After a alot of research and listening to your reponses, I'd say I got a 60% chance.

Your situation seems similar to mine. I got a 2000 and i had a slightly higher GPA but basically the same. I took 8 AP courses over my high school career though and i got accepted into the honors college. I wouldnt fret too much, you do have a chance!
