May have a job beginning this summer, or be participating at some sort of summer educational program.

I'm considering Creative Writing, Journalism, Literature, or English as majors. The only colleges/universities that have really caught my attention are Sarah Lawrence, Vassar, Columbia, NYU, and Berkeley, although I plan on applying to most UCs and many more small lib. arts colleges. If any of you have suggestions for colleges or universities that I should look into, let me know.

I would have phenomenal letters of rec from several teachers and my school counselor, as well as great essays. My GPA and EC's are my weakness, but I'm hoping that combined it's all decent enough to get me some consideration at the schools I like.

Please remember I'm only a Junior, these are first semester grades/rankings, I haven't taken my SATs, and nothing is set in stone. That said, chance away. :-)

If your looking into a english major, I would suggest you try and get some enlish related awards such as the Scholastic Writing Awards. As for your chances, I think that columbia is a reach, others mabe less so but still a reach. I would try and go for a 2200 on the sat, that will help you. Also, you should take the SAT II in Lit and one more b/c those are a few req's for schools (2 SAT II's). GL

Yeah, I plan on taking the Lit SATII but the problem with the SAT thing is, Sarah Lawrence completely disregards SAT scores when you apply, they don't pay much attention to GPA, and they most heavily emphasize the essays. So as long as I write amazing essays, I think I might have a shot there.

Buuuuuuuump.

I think you have GREAT chances!!!!! But only at Columbia Early Decision! You should apply to Columbia Early Decision! It is meant for you!!!! Apply!!!!!

Columbia...is CALLING!!!!!!!!!!

...COLUMBIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^straaaaaaange...

I would say you look like a fantastic candidate for many of the schools you've listed. You have a solid GPA, a good rank, and a nice profile of other activities you're involved in. Score similarly or higher on your SATs the way you did on your PSATs and you're in excellent shape. I would say that Sarah Lawrence would be a "likely" school for you, Vassar a good fit to semi-reach, Columbia a reach because it's so selective, NYU a good fit, and Berkeley a good fit, seeing as you're in-state.

I can also recommend some more liberal arts schools for you to consider... Kenyon College (OH), Swarthmore College (PA), Amherst College (MA), Oberlin College (OH), Bard College (NY), Brandeis University (MA), Hamilton College (NY), Williams College (MA), Haverford College (PA), Bryn Mawr College (PA), Smith College (MA), Barnard College (NY), Bowdoin College (ME), Bates College (ME), Colby College (ME), Wesleyan University (CT), Colgate University (NY), Trinity College (CT), Colorado College (CO), Reed College (OR), and Skidmore College (NY).
