I am a white male at a super elite New England prep/boarding school.

3.3 GPA, average ECs (newspaper, two varsity sports, etc.), 2200 SATs (750 V, 650 M, 800 W), a number of APs (US, Euro, World History; English Lit and Lang; Psychology), a handful of academic awards, etc., etc. Compared to other people on this board, my Community Service blows - I measure hours in the low hundreds, not thousands. And my job experience has been limited to caddying over the summer.

I had an average freshman year (3.4 or so), an awful sophomore year (2.7 or so), and a solid junior year (4.0). I'm very strong in History and English, particularly writing - this is far and away my strength, as I'm probably one of the top writers at a very selective secondary school; not so strong in science and Math, however. I take Chinese - not sure if this is a plus or not.

My List of Schools:

UW-Madison
Northwestern
Willamette U.
Macalester
St. Andrew's (Scotland)
UVA...Legacy here, so I count as instate
Oregon
Puget Sound
Georgetown
Michigan-Ann Arbor

Hmm.. this is tough because of the boarding school thing.

First, I must stress: get 1) an explination for that soph year 2) someone to write recs explaining your 4.0 jr year (which will be very impressive) that highlights your top notch writing skills.

Test scores are great, GPA/soph year will hurt.

I think both Macalaster and Michigan are reaches as well. Puget Sound is a match. I know quite a bit about the admissions of those three schools because I applied to all of them at one point, but I don't have much to offer on the others.
