Chances at Science/Engineering Schools

Hi I was wondering what my chances are at these schools:

I did an internship at UNCC after sophomore year, and am doing one at Duke this summer to enter in Siemens and STS.

Essays and Recs will be stellar I believe.

Anyone?!?!?

Well, the awards are the impressive part, obviously--and since they are all math and science related, they point to your passion for this area.

You know, if you can get your SAT I scores up above 2250, all the awards you should make you good at all these schools--but, on the other hand, you picked every tough school in the US. -----With the exception of CMU and Berkeley, the schools you listed are 7 of the top 8 on USNW's national university ranking. (And Berkeley would be in the top 8 if you didn't count yield and donation numbers and just went by peer rating).

So who knows--you could be accepted at every single one; also you could be rejected at every single one. I'd pick a safety school or two to go with the ones you have listed here--just in case.

lol, NC State and UNC Chapel Hills are pretty much guarantee's for me. Those are my safeties.

How would you classify each of these schools for me? (strong reach, reach, match, safety, etc)

Apparently my AI fluctuates between 230 and 235, but I strongly suspect that thing is a piece of crap at predicting admissions.

All I can say is that your stats are solid, although SATs could use some improvement (I'm confident you'll pull them up). Similar to what Calcruzer said the schools you have selected are extremely difficult to get into. However, since you asked I will classify each school for you. Keeping in mind I'm in the same boat as you. Also your ECs and awards are very impressive, they show an extreme amount of dedication to the sciences and math. Perhaps they might even make up for you SAT scores.

MIT: Reach
Caltech: Reach
Stanford : Reach
CMU: Match
Berkley: Match
HYP: Strong reach (need to improve SAT scores)
Duke: Slight reach

Finally, I'm presenting at AAAS this February as well (PA Male Delegate) so hopefully I can see your project. But best of luck and just get that SAT score up.

Actually, your AI is 229, which is one of the reasons I think you have a good chance. But the other reason--as I mentioned--is all the awards--which equates you with those over 230 on the AI.

Also, most of these schools require another SAT II test--

P.S. The AI of 229 is based upon current class GPA, your third SAT II being at least 780, and your current (not projected) SAT I scores.

lol, yeah you pretty much said it. Its only a predicator.

BTW you have awesome chances everywhere. Make sure you write a good essay to compliment your other stats. Also you should add Olin to your list, its an amazing engineering school .

Hehehe...no chance at all =)

differential:

UCB: Match (out of state)

sr6622, don't give me away!

I'm hoping to publish a few papers in scientific journals this year, and hopefully will do well in Siemens Westinghouse and STS.

So main thing to concentrate on is SAT I correct?

No, you could also get a better personality, but i guess the SAT will do.

contrary to what others have posted, i think you actually have a good chance at all the colleges, but i say that with caution because when one considers hyp, a good chance is still in the 15-20 percent range.
your extracurriculers look great; the science rocks (in fact, you're awards in it are weirdly similar to mine :D). Perhaps, my opinion is way off, but i really think that colleges will overlook your sat scores because of the other activites that you have in your favor.

I'm sorry. But what is HYP?

You've got a great chance on all these schools, go for it. The advice to find a "safety" is a good one, but I doubt you'll need it.

(HYPS == Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford. Without the "S" is the same list without Stanford, of course.)
