Chances at Scripps

It’s one of my top choices and I’m starting to realize that it’s more selective than I thought, so I’m kind of worried…

SAT I (breakdown): didn’t take
ACT (breakdown): 32 single sitting (27S 30M 36R 35E), 33 superscore (29S 30M 36R 36E)
SAT II: 700 BioE, not submitting
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.64
Weighted GPA (out of 5.0): 4.2
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): top 15%
AP (place score in parenthesis): only taken two APs, US history (3), and chem (this year)
IB (place score in parenthesis): Biology HL, Lit HL, European History HL, Psych (6), Spanish IV, Calculus, TOK
Senior Year Course Load: Honors Medicine, IB TOK, AP chemistry, IB calculus, IB european history HL, band, IB biology HL, IB spanish IV, IB lit HL
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Scholastic Art and Writing (two gold keys national, three honorable mentions regional) and National Hispanic Recognition Program

Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): marching band 9-12 (president 11&12), orchestra 9-12 (vice president 10-12), pit orchestra 11&12 on both flute and viola, NHS 12, started a gardening community service club that works along with my school’s IB program and NHS program and am now the president (that was 11&12), started and ran the science bowl club (11&12), fellow for the Colorado Democratic Party, public forum debate 11&12, and Bard Young Writer’s Workshop
Job/Work Experience:
Volunteer/Community service: the community service greenhouse club (150 hours), and the local hospital (150 hours)
Summer Activities: Bard/fellowship/marching band
Essays: Writing is by far my greatest academic strength. I told the story of how I grew up through having a distant, abusive, and destitute father. It made most of my family cry, so I’m hoping it’s pretty solid.
Teacher Recommendation: These should be pretty good. My IB psych and TOK teachers are both actually good friends of mine since the TOK one runs debate. I am friends with them both on Facebook lol.
Counselor Rec: Probably completely mediocre.
Additional Rec: I had my boss at the democratic party write me one, she sent it to me and it’s very good.
Interview: Eh. 7/10.
Other: I do have a very unique story family wise. I put in my additional information the story about how my father has impacted my mental health and performance and school. I also talked about my CAS project and EE for the IB program.

Applied for Financial Aid?: yes
Intended Major: PPE & neuroscience
State (if domestic applicant): Colorado
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: public
Ethnicity: hispanic
Gender: female
Income Bracket: ~100k
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM

Thanks so much! (and I will chance back)

Hi!

You posted this a couple weeks ago, so I’m not sure if you’ll see this, but I’m also applying to Scripps '21 (RD)

I can tell you right now that your scores/gpa/EC’s are all much stronger than mine… But I applied to Scripps and several other selective liberal arts colleges despite being “below average” because you never really know exactly what the admissions counselors are looking for, especially at LACs and schools with holistic admissions.

If you are just looking at the numbers, your test scores and GPA are slightly above the average of 31 ACT and a 4.11 GPA, which should give you a good shot at being admitted. Being part of your school’s IB program will definitely help show the admissions counselors that you take rigorous classes.

Overall, I’d say you have a pretty good chance of being admitted!
Good luck!

not sure if you’ll see this, but i’m a sophomore at scripps and you will definitely get in
