Chances at Several Schools

Ok...I'm looking at several schools and wondering what kind of shot I've got. I will not be in-state for any of these schools. Currently I'm looking at USC, U of Chicago, UNC Chapel Hill, Duke, Rice, Washington U in St. Louis, UC Berkeley, and maybe Stanford and Yale. Just wondering if I'm aiming too high.

GPA: 5.083 (counting up to first semester of jr. year)

Rank: 11th out of 525 in a competitive public high school

Sat I: Math-720 Verbal-750 Writing-780

Sat II: World History 800 (taking physics, U.S. History, and Math ii in two months)

APs: 10th Grade- World History (received a 5) 11th Grade- English Lang, Music Theory, Physics B, U.S. History 12th Grade (scheduled)- Calculus BC, English Lit, Physics C, Statistics

Extras:
-played trumpet for 6 years, ranked first in the state for jazz
-played piano for 8 years
-member of Knowledge Bowl Team
-done several model un conferences (if those count)
-made perfect score on national latin exam (levels I and II)
-some community service, but nothing special

your GPA seems to be on such a strange scale that it would be helpful if we knew your actual schedule and grades.

but from SATs and extracurriculars, i'd venture this guess:
USC - match
U of Chicago - reach
UNC Chapel Hill - match
Duke - reach
Rice - slight reach
Washington U in St. Louis - slight reach
UC Berkeley - out of state? reach
Stanford - rejected
Yale - rejected

Arti's pretty much got it right, though I'd be kinder about your chances at Stanford and Yale and say both are big reaches. Rice and especially WashU would be good, "reachable" reaches for you, especially if they have the major or majors you want. There's a couple of kids in my neighborhood who go to WashU, and both of them love it.

The way my school's GPA system works is standard classes are worth 4 points for an A, honors are worth 5 points, and AP classes are worth 6 points. Also, the only grades that count are semester averages. So, right now the only grades that are figured into my GPA are up until the first semester of Jr. year. I do not have all A's, but only 3 B's, all from my first two years of high school.

uh his SATs are about average for those schools..

UCB: Slight Reach (out of state)
