Hi, I'm a rising senior looking to pursue a degree in American Studies/History (I eventually want to teach at the college level). One of the colleges that has really drawn me in is Skidmore College, though I'm not sure of my chances for admission.
My AP US History teacher and my AP English teacher will be writing my letters of reccomendation. I interview very well and I'm very passionate about everything I've been involved in during high school. I am applying ED and I will, unfortunately, have to apply for financial aid.

Thanks in advance for any and all responses!

In! Stats are great! Curious to hear where else you are applying?

:) Thanks for the input!
And I believe I’m also applying to SUNY Albany, SUNY New Paltz, Syracuse University, Ithaca College, and UVM.

In 100%, not even close. You will love Skidmore! Your only “low” grades are science which are not your intended field of study. Looking at your ec’s, you will fit right in there as it is a very active campus.

You are for sure into UVM but as out of stater you will receive NO Financial Aid, if that is a consideration or an actual requirement, don’t even apply. I think you should have a reach in your group of schools…you will get in everywhere.

I will be attending Skidmore in the fall and i’d say you have an excellent chance. Also, UVM doesn’t give good aid to in-state students either…

HollyMorgan –

I’m attending Skidmore in the fall and I agree – you’re likely in, your stats look great, nice work!

I am actually FROM Ithaca and know a billion people at the college. It’s a great place to be, but much larger, and, from what I’ve seen, a very different atmosphere than at Skid.

Good luck!

Hey there! I recently graduated from Skidmore with a degree in American Studies! It’s really exciting to see that someone’s interested in it lol. As everyone else has said, your stats look great and I think you have an excellent chance at getting in. How was your class about the 1960’s? Last semester I took the 60’s class that the major offers and it was one of my favorite classes, also because of the professor. If you’d like I can give you his name (or the name of the current department chair) so you can get more insight into the major. Also, feel free to ask me any questions! Good luck!

Wow, thank you all so much for the input! I’m going to take UVM off my list of schools to apply to, I had doubts about their financial aid and all of these responses confirmed my doubts. I’m beginning to look for “reach” schools. And Emizzly, I loved my 60’s class! The 60’s is definitely one of my favorite time periods in American history. I would love any information regarding professors or the major in general, would you mind if I private messaged you? :)

Thanks again to all of you!

Apply ED to Skidmore.
They take about 300 out of 500 applicants.
and they will give a lot of money to ED applicants.

why would they give great money to ED students when those kids are already required to attend and the school doesn’t need to further incentivise to get those people enrolling?

Good question!

Skidmore will give you the financial aid you need. I know a few ED kids who got a substantial amount of money (I got decent financial aid, too, but I was an RD admit). To the best of my knowledge, the financial aid department is really good at remaining impartial, since it IS need-aware to begin with.

If they do not meet your need, you do not have to attend.
