college lists [looking to go into business school]:

(national rank)(college name)(acceptance rate/level)
24 University of Virginia 38%/most selective [top choice]
27 University of NC - chapel hill 37%/most selective
24 University of Michigan 57%/most selective
18 Emory University 37%/most selective
41 University of Illinois - UC 75%/more selective
34 University of Wisconsin - Madison 68%/more selective
77 Virginia Tech 72%/more selective

i need to narrow them down little bit, but I desperately want to go to any of first 4 colleges

6 College prep? As in AP/IB? Why not send scores?

You have a solid GPA, but the only thing that may be holding you back are your SAT scores. Although they aren't terrible, they aren't great either. You should check with all the colleges if they accept the Jan. 27 sitting. The 480 CR is the only score holding you truly back. SAT II scores are fine but won't hurt you as bad as the 480.

With those scores your top 4 colleges may be harder to get in to, but definitely not out of reach. I'd put the top 4 at match to slight reach ramge(UVA probably a match since you are in-state). Illinois and Wisconsin at lower matches, and VT is a safety. Not sure if that is what you want to hear, but thats what I think.

i sincerely appreciate ur deep feedback and i agree with what u r saying. i've tried as far i could, but it seems like that verbal is where i am at. actually, ur feedback wasn't as bad as i thought i was going to hear. once again, thank you.

No problem!

UNC , UMich are getting harder and harder to get into nowadays. But if you call the admissions office of UVA,UMich, UNC-H and Emory and see if they accept the Jan. 27th SAT then you have an excellent shot at increasing your chances at these schools. I know Johns Hopkins University, USC, U Wisconsin , U Rochester (Some of the schools I am applying to) do accept the Jan. 27th SAT sitting for regular decision.

Have you taken the SAT only once? I know the first time I took it I did terrible, 1160/1600 and 1640/2400, the second time improved to 1240/1600 and 1770/2400 (Sad scores, I know - I never studied at all for these, I hoped that my pure knowledge and test taking skills would allow me to score great, but obviously not. The third time I took it I improved to a composite of 1950). The only thing I have going for me is that I have decent CR/Math scores and a weak Writing score and colleges don't weigh the writing section as heavily as the CR/Math. Definitely take it again on Jan. 27th if you can.

I am actually studying this time for the test and I can tell already how much easier the SAT is after studying for 2 days. I would definitely recommend purchasing the online course as well as the SAT book that collegeboard sells.

All in all, I'd rather have a strong GPA versus a weak SAT score because of obvious reasons. The GPA shows the long term academic record, and SAT only one small portion. Colleges know this and the admissions people are human beings and understand that some people are not great test takers (Not saying you aren't, maybe you didn't study like me! Haha). I would not worry too much, you still have a great shot at all the colleges. BUT FOR SURE TAKE IT AGAIN IF YOU CAN, THERE IS NO HARM IN USING A SATURDAY TO IMPROVE THAT SCORE TO 600+!

i actually have taken the sat many times, but my verbal score doesn't seem to move much.
I am also planning to take it again, but it seems most colleges don't accept them. I wonder if there is any website that shows whether colleges accept january test
anybody else want to chance me please?
I need more predictions of colleges as reach, match, safety, but i am not certain.

Virginia Tech is the only one you have a chance at with these scores. Retake.

thank you.
but can the fact that english is my second language put me in more advantage?
the 'particular' section i am struggling with is verbal...

does anybody have a prediction for me?

i have a suggestion, i don't really like doing predictions that often. Apply to another less selective school. I live in VA also, (btw what school do you go to?), but James Madison is a good choice. Also i know ODU is a good safety school for you, also. I am not saying that you will not get into your top 4, however, there is no clear safety for you in that list, i think. However, if your councilor says that list is fine, trust him/her over my opinion please haha. I agree with the above post when they mentioned that adcoms know that the SAT is really just a test. It does not reflect 4 years of hard work!! Don't be too let down by the 500- score. However, i know that studying helps, and I think it is possible to raise it to at least 550+. Take it again on Jan. 27 after seeing if any of those schools will accept those scores.
