Chances at some random schools?

<p>Hey guys,</p>

<p>I am currently a Junior at a very competitive private school in Florida. I was just wondering as to if anybody could give me some input as to whether or not I have a legitimate shot? I am hoping to go for Business/Management. I know my stats pale in comparison to 99.99% of the people here, but whatever.</p>

<p>I plan on applying to these schools in August/September (nice and early, eh?):</p>

<p>University of Southern California
University of California (Los Angeles)
University of Michigan
Auburn University
University of Indiana (Bloomington)
Purdue University
University of Pittsburgh
University of Alabama (Tuscaloosa)
University of California (Irvine)
Ohio State University</p>

<p>ACT - 29, and taking again in June. Hoping for a 31 or so.
SAT - Took the May SAT and am still waiting on those results. I think I did very well (1300+ hopefully!).</p>

<pre><code>-Freshman Year GPA: 3.33 UW/3.33 W (No Honors/AP)
-Sophomore Year GPA: 3.40 UW/3.40 W (No Honors/AP)
-Junior Year GPA (so far): 3.18 UW/3.40ish W (3 Honors/No AP)
-Senior Year GPA: TBD (2 Honors/1 AP)

School does not release rankings.

<p>Essays should be very good, being as I am a good writer. Recs also very good.</p>

<p>Extra Curricular Activities:
- Debate Team (3 years)
- Key Club (3 years)
- Young Democrats Club (1 year)
- Young Republicans Club (3 years... I joined BOTH my Sophomore year to see which one I preferred, before giving the nod to the Y.R.)
- Newspaper (1 year)
- 140 hours of community service
- Treasurer of 11th grade class
- Treasurer of the school for next year
- Internship at local stock brokerage firm</p>

<p>Other things:
-Attended a summer study at University of Colorado at Boulder in the summer before Junior Year.
-Come from a broken home -- Divorced parents. I've been told by a few people to play this card.
-National Society of High School Scholars
-Went on an Outward Bound excursion for a month the summer before my Freshman year.
-Dean’s List in Fall ’06, Fall ’07, and Spring ’07.
-I run a business online buying and selling baseball cards. I started with $500 in 2004 and am up to over $15,000 in inventory. I hope to make it to $20,000 and donate it for Cancer research, a subject very near and dear to me. I've had too many friends and relatives die of this disease.
-I am spending this summer in Tanzania, helping in a few villages with building schools, teaching the children, and helping out.</p>

<p>the only downfall u might have with the top schools on your list is the number of honors/ap classes that u took. just my 2 cents but i have a similar gpa as u do, good luck though and u should be alright with alot of them</p>

<p>I think that USC, UCLA and Michigan are reaches and I don't know anything about Irvine. I think you have excellent chances at the remaining schools. Check on IU's site though because I think they have certain requirements for gpa/ SAT direct admit to Kelly. You can transfer in at a later date however if you meet certain requirements. Your ecs are very good and should help you out when you start applying. Best of luck!</p>

<p>"Essays should be very good, being as I am a good writer."</p>

<p>ROFLMAO!!! Quote of the day!</p>

<p>The business program at UCI is very competitive. I think UCI only admitted 150 students into this program. A lot of students with higher GPA and SATs who are from CA got rejected this year. They have around 3.8 GPA and 1900+SAT. It still depends on the rigor of courseload of your 9-12 grades.</p>

<p>Why are you applying to such easy schools to get in to? I think you have a chance at places like yale, harvard, duke and such. I also think you will get into all of the schools on your list.</p>

<p>^
Not to be "mean", but I have to disagree with the poster above me. Can you get into "better", or more competitive schools? Definitely, if your SATs are in fact 1300+. However, HYPS and the like are all reaches...BIG reaches...
Your lack of Honors/APs and your low GPA will hurt you though if you apply elsewhere. Pretty sure you'll get into most schools on your list though. Best of luck!</p>

<p>AceClark - Yeah, I know, the schools spoet named are above and beyond for me. </p>

<p>If I do get a 1300+, what "better" schools would you recommend?</p>

<p>Thanks a lot for the information so far, guys!</p>
