What are my chances and what needs the most improving?

yea definitely show interest early... a lot of highly ranked kids have been waitlisted because they never showed interest before applying and washu assumed that they were just using it as a safety school. and just raise the CR and writing portion of your SATs and you should be fine.

The fact that he thought it was a typo implies to me that he misunderstood and thought your mean SAT was 1000.

I'm reading that Wash U has a mean SAT score of 1400, or 700 per section (I can't seem to find the information officially.) If this is correct, then this tells me that you have two slightly low subsections, but nothing that should be mistaken for a typo.

To answer your question about scholarships:

I believe that the approximate numbers for last year were as follows:
Danforth Awarded 16
Rodriguez Awarded 25
Ervin Awarded 30

In addition to the above they also award Engineering school, Business school and Honorary Scholars program in arts & science scholarships. These include the Compton, Mylonas, Moog and a few other scholarship programs.

Most of the above are full tuition scholarships and many include annual stipends in addition to full tuition.

Most of these programs offer far more than just money. They include special events & programs, priority housing & class registration, research opportunities, mentoring and much more. Good luck with the process.

you sound like an exact replica of my friend who got in. his test scores are a little higher, but I still think you have a pretty decent chance.

90% chance of getting into WashU with those statistics? I don't think so. I know that WashU isn't as hard to get into as places like Harvard, Columbia, Stanford, etc., but it's not THAT easy...if anything, it's becoming harder and harder every year. If I had to guess, Wash U's yield will increase, and their applications will continue to increase, and this can only mean it will keep getting harder to get into.

college apps are always a crapshoot...unless you have friends in high places, admission to any upper-level school is nowhere near a given. But it looks like your stats are good, if you show interest or whatever. Being in california, it's harder to visit, per se, but you can express enthusiasm in your essays, apply for the scholarships, call with questions, any number of things. I'm just rattling off things that one of their admissions officers told me (coz my sister went there and worked with them one summer). Best of luck to you
