And with whichever school that I'm applying to, I'm also submitting an arts supplement: Which should I submit though, Piano or Photography?

Top Choices: * means do not look at freshman grades, but I'm not sure about the ones that I did not * so if you could clarify, that would be great!:
1. Stanford- may apply early action? 5-6 people in from my school each year
2.Berkeley- about 50 people from my school each year accepted
3.Duke- may apply early, 4 people from school accepted -Parents want me to go here
4.Johns Hopkins- if I apply Early action, 50% acceptance rate
5.UCLA- 50 people from school accepted last year
6.Columbia- 3 people got in from school, also contender for EA
7. UCSD- 66 people accepted from school
8. UCDavis- 74 people accepted from school
But I seriously want to know where I should apply Early action or decision!

Well, thanks for taking the time for reading this! My GPA is pretty low compared to other students at other schools, but at my school it is REALLY good. And although my school doesn't rank, I bet that I would be in the top 10%. And Please don't crush my dreams too much! Again, thanks! And I'm applying to ALL of these schools no matter what, because "you miss 100% of the shots you never take" - Wayne Gretzky

u have a good shot at ALL these schools. chance me now plz :)

Stanford feels like the only reach, and your stats make me jealous. You’re a serious contender. Chance me back please http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1166509-breakdown-my-chances.html</a></p>

I personally think do Stanford EA. (I believe it’s restrictive) My APUSH senior instructor is going their in the fall along with 6 other kids from my school and all of them applied EA I think except for 1.

Your stats are REALLY GOOD. And the ECs are really well rounded too. Good balance with academics and athletics Volleyball/Crew and the fine arts perspective Photography and Music. As far as the arts supplement, which do you feel more passionate about? Which of the two are you stronger in? I feel like there should be some way to intertwine the two arts into one. I don’t know if there is. But there should be.

Have you toured campuses yet? Or are you planning to? That’s how some people decide to apply early. I think if you really see yourself attending the school then apply early! It can’t hurt.

Stanford - Reach
2.Berkeley – Low Reach (they can be schitzo)
3.Duke - Match
4.Johns Hopkins - Match
5.UCLA - In
6.Columbia - Reach

UCSD - In

UCDavis – In

(:

Well, to be honest, I am more passionate about photography. But ANYONE with a camera thinks that they are a photographer nowadays! It’s just become such a competitive field! Although I have almost no doubt that my photos would trump many others, you never know what the arts admission wants within a candidate. However, in piano, I have played pieces which have left people in tears. (not even people that I know) I just feel like photography would be more appealing all throughout college. And as for EA, I’m visiting colleges soon. Maybe I’ll be able to make my decision then!

Wow! You have a great chance at all those schools, particularly the ones on the east coast since so many schools want “geographic diversity”. Your scores and extracurriculars are really strong and it looks like you’re making the best of what your school offers, which is great! I know stanford/berkeley are both top schools for biology which helps too. I hope everything works out for you!

You’re right about the GPA and unless you can explain it, I think that will hurt your chances at some schools. (Mostly the UCs, which are numbers-based and don’t really care about your ECs. It sucks, I know – but what can you do?)

Also, knowing where you live in California might give you insight to the UCs and which ones might be more inclined to accept you. (Northern? Central? Southern?)

Ask yourself: Are you hoping to MAJOR in the arts? If not, I don’t think an arts supplement will help you in any way – in fact, it might hurt you. You want to show you’re dedicated to the program or area of study you’re applying to and looking wishy-washy might throw a rejection your way. Just something to consider. Schools (especially UCs) really do not give a flying ***** about if you might major in piano or something else. You pick that later on, anyway.

Stanford - probable rejection
Berkeley - probable rejection
Duke - probable acceptance
Johns Hopkins - acceptance
UCLA - probable acceptance (you NEVER know with them, they’re the worst)
Columbia - probable acceptance
UCSD - acceptance (unless you choose bio, which may be probable acceptance)
UCDavis – acceptance

I think you should also consider:
USC - better/higher ranked than UCLA and you do qualify to receive the half/full tuition scholarship if accepted
UVA
Cornell
Vanderbilt

You’d be in at all those schools for sure.

No, I’d only do arts supplement at the private schools, and Stanford has this scholarship for students who are eventually going to medicine & have a music minor. Many schools are actually trying to support their arts through various programs that often buddy up with Biology. Thanks for the advice though :)

I think you have a great shot at each school. Good Luck! Make sure you write a great essay and explain where appropriate in your application why your grades were lower in 9th grade.

Just so you know, Columbia has ED, not EA. Good luck. You seem like a great applicant.

Haha,Thanks for Clarifying that! and thanks! :)

Solid application, more well-rounded than alot of other threads I have seen on this page. One minor comment that maybe you can explain, is honors chem your first year of chem? Cause I thought that usually people take chem junior year and then physics senior year?

At my school, it goes : freshman: general Physical sciences 1, Sophomores: general biological sciences 2, Juniors: choose between AP Bio, Honors Chem, AP Physics, (the more advanced students do Bio and Physics) Senior:whatever is left over. I chose AP, my forte, in junior year to up my GPA, then H Chem senior year because I needed chemical sciences. Most advanced students, at my school take AP bio junior year. Good question by the way!

With all of your awards, leadership positions, great scores and GPA, you will most definitely get into all of those colleges.
Chance me, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1178445-ill-chance-back.html</a></p>

You have a great chance at all of those schools, especially with those scores and EC’s! You may want to consider either compiling a portfolio of your photographs, or make a CD of you playing the piano (or both) to send in with your application to show how passionate you are, and to further set yourself apart from the crowd. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get the admissions officer to cry from your incredible piano playing  !

Go early to Stanford. Great school and great fit for you. Good luck or also think about duke I am applying early there.

Thanks Everyone for the chancing so far! BUMP!

some great extracurriculars! especially all the internships! also, being a male and in volleyball is quite rare relatively, so that makes you stand out of course. I would say you’re basically in everywhere except those standard schools that are basically random chance. but i’d say even there you have a great chance.

chance back!
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1181466-chance-guy-anti-hook.html</a></p>

Sir I believe that you are very qualified for all schools and both Berkeley and Stanford are lucky to get a student like you, your grades are up to snuff and your ec’s are phenomenal, good luck!
