Here are my stats, I dont know for sure what to put, but here goes nothing

Junior at Public School in Chicago suburbs

Class Rank: 1 out of 635
GPA: 4.96 on a 4.00 scale (Honors are weighted, it would be a 4.00 on 4.00)
SAT 2200 (760 Math, 730 Writing, 710 Reading)
SATIIs: Taking Physics math IIC and spanish saturday (wish me luck!)
ACT: 34

ECs: Captain of Mock Trial Team (won best attorney for school), Student Council Member, Student leader of snowball organization, Varsity Tennis and Soccer, National Honors society

APs:
Only took AP psychology this year (no score yet)

Next year will take AB Calc (lame I know... I had a fight with the BC teacher), AP Bio, AP Government, and AP Spanish

Um... anything else...? I work at a YMCA camp over the summers? I should be studying for finals but I am not...

What are chances at:
Stanford
Brown
Duke
Georgetown
Berkley
Harvard, Princeton ect...
Northwestern

I was not endowed with pure genius, I am only a hard worker, what does it look like for me.

I would say you're a very strong applicant, but not one that stands-out.

However, for some odd reason, all the people I've heard that have got accepted have stats like yours. Try and apply, hope for the best. I would also advise adding some safeties to your list as well.

Well I hope I can prove you wrong and bust it out and get in... I try so hard, I dont see how people do much better and still manage to have a friend...? Haha

What would be some good safety schools to look at... I am open to anything

safety schools? Forget ivy all together. You only go ivy if your black or an illegal alien. Or if your becoming president. Look into UNC Chapel Hill, this is in the top 5 public universities in the country and it will probably be 1/4 the price. There is more to college then just being a book worm. Like you said only one friend? Chapel Hill has been successful in aspects that students I go to class with turned down Harvard for this school Reason being? Because it is like Buddha taught, take the middle path. Chapel Hill offers great social life, a 60/40 female to male ratio! What more can you ask for then that. More or less, we raped everyone in the country in basketball this year. Consider activities! Do you think a whole state will rise up in cheers if Yale wins basketball? No! Why? Because they play basketball like it is polo! You can have sports, women, and a great city to live in, and still be in an intellectual think tank with other gen... We have Duke across the street, so if you can't find what you want here. Just jump right over to Duke, at least they leave room for decent athletes.

My school does in fact offer AP classes, only not many for Juniors. Senior year I am taking AB calc, AP spanish, AP english, AP gov, and AP bio...

If all that stuff and how well I did cant get me into top tier schools... then these top tier schools (and the kids who do more than I do...) are nuts. I work my butt of and this is what I get... yoowzas, you guys are depressing.

I also do a peer jury program... that should help, ill probably write an essay how I changed some kids life with it... it is a good program

I guess then if I ivies are out of the picture, Id look at other good schools, some safeties, any more ideas for schools?

ok:
1.) Your courses are not at all rigorous (AP psych is the easiest AP of all)
2.) Lack leadership positions
3.) Lack community service
4.) Ecs dont really stand out.
5.) Great academics :)

(btw, PM me and I can provide you with a great opportunity to make you ecs stand out more)

Eaglemax86 was semi-kidding. Your academics are top-notch, but your EC's are pretty weak. Nothing really stands out about you. And yes, having taken only one AP exam so far is not that great. Even if you school doesn't offer that many, numerous students self-teach themselves for AP's. Basically, you have a shot, so you should certainly apply. You are an unhooked applicant though, so your essays and recs will make or break you.

You are a high stats person with low/ lower ECs. This makes HYPS pretty unlikely.

You should be good for the next group of schools which will be more forgiving due to your high Academic Index. On your list that is Duke and Brown. I would say you have a 50% chance at these type of schools.

The next group are very solid with your stats. These schools are Georgetown, Berkeley,
and Northwestern.

My advice is to add Penn and Dartmouth (these are pretty similar to Georgetown, Duke, Brown as they are all "social" top schools) as category 2 schools to give you more options and perhaps a place like Emory as a safety.

What if some clubs just dont offer leadership positions? Our Science Olympiad and math Club don't really have elections.. probably because they are both small clubs.

dont worry about chances. you're qualified enough to apply, so do so. forums like these dont provide you with useful info with regard to chances. people either say ur not good enough (and you get mad), or that youll get in (which will make you unnecessarily overconfident.)

though if you go to Palo Alto HS, u can consider stanford a safety. (stanfords charter requires them to take like 20-25 from that school every year)

and partially because half of the students have either a) done research at Stanford already b) taken classes at Stanford or c) have parents who are professors there.

i mean, a couple of years ago, everyone knew this girl would get accepted to Stanford...because she was the dean of admissions' daughter...(and she did...though she had a lot of merits too)

Well, you certainly aren't doing as bad as some people on this thread make it out to be...My suggestion is that you maybe visit some of the schools on your list if you haven't already and then narrow them down some so you aren't overwhelmed with applications. but still apply to plenty that you want and then apply to more match/safeties.

For upper-caliber schools, make sure to wow them with your essay. You might want to be a little riskier, that seems to help, but if you are worried about your ECs that may be a way to boost your chances. To be honest, no one really knows what your decisions will be. Just go for it if you'd like to go somewhere, but don't be brokenhearted by any rejection letters. Its better to know than to always wonder what would have happened had you applied.

I guess I am a bit confused about the application process, like every year I do odds and ends with soup kitchens and stuff, how do I put those on my apps then?

Also, I could really use some other suggestions for some schools as back ups, Im new to the whole application thing, and I counselor is no help. I visited Stanford (I feel in love the moment I stepped on campus) and a lot of UC schools. As you can tell I like the warmth...

Any suggestions would be wonderful, I know this isnt the right forum, but hey, while we are discussing Ill give it a go
