Chances at Stanford/Columbia etc. with these stats?

****, dude, you sound exactly like zach blumenfeld… just without the whole being on jeopardy part

and @bobtheboy, i’m sick of hearing that this kid’s “academics are fine.” that’s complete ********, and your attempts at undermining someone who’s pulled off a 4.0 UW and a 36 only show your own insecurities.

What are you talking about? There’s no way to better a 4.0 and 36, so even if I was criticizing him he could obviously blow that off since nobody has >4.0 UW and >36 ACT. However, in what way was I criticizing him? I was simply saying that although his EC’s aren’t stellar enough to grant him more than 50% chance at any of those schools, his academics make up for that so he still has a shot.

I was asking what AP themes is. He says that one of the classes he is in this year is AP Themes, and since no such class exists I asked what it was.

Please lay off the language and please stop insulting me because you lack the ability to comprehend simple sentences.

I’m trying to be honest because I know that unfortunately 4.0/2400 or 36 coupled with average ECs isn’t enough to get you into a lot of these schools. I know this firsthand. Were I to say “You’ll get in because you’re really smart,” I would be lying, even though I wish college admissions worked that way.

20more - I think he made deca finals, he didnt do any science/math competitions, he did varsity swim and track. he had about the same SAT, almost perfect, and ton of AP, making the weighted GPA shoot over 4.7 like the OP. Also the perfect 5s on AP exam, the high subject test scores are not to be ignored.

I think good essays and stellar recommendations play a big part, in addition to the super high gpa/perfect SAT.

Probably in for 1 or 2 of HYMPS. I know so many less-qualified Asians that got into some of those schools. Nice grades and scores.

Good Luck!

HYPSM, Chicago, Columbia and Duke are reach schools for everybody.
It does not mean that OP will not get into those colleges. He/she might get into one or two or rejected/waitlisted from all of them.

“Probably in for 1 or 2 of HYMPS”
That is a BIG statement.
“I know so many less-qualified Asians that got into some of those schools.”
Yes, (many) Asians do get in. But, that does not mean that elite college admission process is easier or fair for Asians.
Also, if you think OP (I think he is an Asian) has same chances as whites or URMs, you are living in a fantasy land.

Bottom Line: If OP applies to MANY top colleges, then he will get into some.

Yes i am Asian but i happen to be female… Don’t know if that changes too much though. I did take the AMC 10 and 12 but my scores were not extremely phenomenal. I wasnt sure how much to put down for extracirriculars but I do play two instruments and have other volunteer activities. From what i was told colleges prefer depth in ecs rather than quantity and I do spend about 35 hours a week in the pool during high school season and about 10 hours a week the rest of the year if that counts for anything. And yes I do have a number of other schools on my list.

AP themes is what AP English lit is called in my school

*15 hours a week for swimming not 35. Mah bad

“Yes i am Asian but i happen to be female… Don’t know if that changes too much though.”

I believe it will help you if you are a STEM person.
