Chances at Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and Columbia (Engineering)

What are the chances at these colleges, considering these stats: Stanford, MIT, Caltech, and Columbia (Wu Foundation of Engineering)

SAT: Math: 800, Verbal: 740 Writing: 780

Sat II's:

GPA: 4.1 weighted

Grades description: Straight A's 10th - 12th grade, with 3 B's/ 3 A's freshman year. (Freshman year was a very weak showing)

Rank: School does not rank, but I am in top 10% for sure

Class schedules:

Freshman year:

AP Multivariable Calc
AP English (Literature)
British Literature
Asia Studies
Band (Oboe)

Award Info: A bunch of cool, relativly generic stuff, like top student in subject awards, and awards for AMC and AIME success. No particular award deserves particular attention, but I do have a slew of solid ones. (commended scholar for PSAT...or was it National Merit? Not so sure.)

EC's:

President of engineering team which has won multiple national titles in various competitions

President of Math Team

Public editor for School's Newspaper

On spring team track for Javelin and Discus

Started a school club for performing and analyzing Stand up Comedy (president)

Started a Ping Pong Club (president)

Participated in a TV game show with much success

Summer endeavors:

Took college courses at Cornell University and recieved an A- average

SSP (Summer Science Program)

CTY for two years, one summer studying Game Theory, and the other for studying Biology

Hook's, or things that might make me stand out:

I am hearing impaired, which is something I like to joke about when I do Stand Up Comedy. (these two things are what my college essay is about.)

For MIT, I have 2 letters from influential faculty members praising me.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

If the game show was "Jeopardy" and you won, you're in everywhere.

(Your profile is fine. You would have a good shot anywhere. Relax.)

It's Fu Foundation. Not Wu. Providing you didn't write that on your application, you should be good.

Hahah, yeah I, meant to say Fu.

A question I had: I have basically no community service, as I couldn't spare any substantial time do it. Will this have an affect? I only ask cause I notice most strong canadites have community service.

Just BS something. They never really check on that kind of stuff. Its impossible to.

eeerrr....BS? as in cheat? I don't think so. But is this common? do kids frequently lie about an obscene number of hours of community service?

uhhh i rounded 57.5 hours to 60 hours, but I just did that too make all the numbers nice and even. I dun recommend you cheat since you might get owned and rejected from all colleges if they find out cause they check 10% of the applicants roughly. So if you apply to 5 schools, you have a 50% chance of getting caught...

fastMEd, I believe your math is wrong.

Stanford- Reach, not a huge one though
Caltech- Depends on those awards you won in math and engineering
MIT- Slight reach, almost match
Columbia- Match

You're applying this year right?

what's your ethnicity? hate to say it, but it could make a difference...if you're Asian, you're facing some tough competition...I know it's harsh, but it's true! if you're black, you're definitely in.

btw, I'm not racist. seriously, I'm not.

At least they are realistic reaches.

fastMEd's math is wrong, but then again I don't think the chances were that high in the first place. As long as something isn't completely out of the blue, I don't see how colleges can check it.

Say for instance I was to say I did a hundred or two hours of volunteering for a club in my freshman year when I really only did about 25, college can't prove that I'm lying, nor will they attempt to because they know they can't.

780? You're retarded. You won't get in anywhere, maybe you should try a community college.

They are all extremely realistic reaches with Columbia Engineering being a high match. You have "the package". You have a strong SAT, strong GPA, and you have strong EC's. Your SAT II's are also very impressive. I would also suggest you apply to Cornell Engineering...I think it would be a match. Also, I believe Harvey Mudd will give you merit money. Good luck! (To anyone who asked, I think he's Asian...he started a ping pong club.)

Please chance me at:

Dear Nato,

I have read through your original post, and have noticed that you are taking AP Multivariable Calculus. I have also looked at college boards lists of AP courses, and I dont seem to see Ap Multivariable anywhere on the list? Have you invented this course, or am I mistaken?

"I dun recommend you cheat since you might get owned and rejected from all colleges if they find out cause they check 10% of the applicants roughly. So if you apply to 5 schools, you have a 50% chance of getting caught..."

ROFL, This comment made my day. LMFAO..the SAT math will destroy people who think like that

Anyways, you have decent/average chances (your lack of awards can def. hurt), so much depends on what your commitment was. But having influential faculty writing recs means jacksquat unless they say something like "top in my career" or w/e.
