Volunteering:
like 200 hours somethign?

Research:
This summer, I will be conducting research at USC for 6 weeks.

THe biggest thing with me is I go to a really really intense public boarding school in SC that 's on a list w/ like stuyvesant and thomas jefferson for newsweek's "public elites". problem w/ going there is my grades have dipped.. no longer straight A's. This is definitely my biggest concern. I will also be taking 4-5 AP's in senior year w/ 3-4 above AP courses.

also to McGill. I am a canadian citizen but a permanent legal resident of US

if you write good, original essays for u of c, i'm almost certain you'll get in

what about everything else?

You haven't listed any SAT IIs?

reject from harvard and stanford. you just don't stand out

haven't taken SAT II's yet.

doesnt harvard require Three SAT IIs?

yeah i'm sure they do but I'm still a junior so I'm gonna wait until the year ends. I'm pretty sure they'll be pretty high.

what would it take to get into stanford? i've pretty much given up on harvard already.

Dude, you are not an immediate reject for anywhere. Colleges will not clear out reject students. However for Harvard and Stanford, your GPA is low but going to a difficult school may compensate for it. Your 2300 SAT is unremarkable, along with most of your extracurriculars. However, you have a chance for both schools.

If you have given up for Harvard, you might as well give up for Stanford. There is no difference in what the two look for and you should feel that being accepted to one of those high caliber schools is good enough for acceptance at any school on the level.

does anyone know what sort of unweighted gpa i need? am i basically screwed because of a couple of B's?

Some boarding schools sortof weight your unweighted GPA (if that makes any sense) since they're so hard. You GPA could actually be equivalent to a 4.0. They usually weight around .2 (or so I'm told). I don't know if they actually weight it, but theres a general understanding that that's what it's equivalent to, if you're school is one of those schools.

Screwed?

F**k yeah, you should have got straight A's.
Now it's definetly out of hope.

what about my chances at Duke? And while I do agree that getting A's is important, I personally don't feel that I'm just "screwed" w/ a few Bs. I go to a hard-ass boarding school and i'm taking 7 Ap's junior year and an above AP math

^ I think your chances at Duke are pretty good.
I got in with lower GPA and similar SAT's.
I had a 6 AP courseload junior year which hurt my GPA a little.. but it didn't change too much.

You should also get into Chicago.

Also to let people know, 3.89 (especially from a "hard-ass boarding school" is not "automatic reject" at Harvard or Stanford.. good luck!

That's like saying that a 2150 has NO chance at Harvard or Stanford.. which we know isn't true.

Does going early action help at all for Stanford?

Studies have shown that applying Early Action does give the applicant a slight boost.
