Sat 2:

If not, what else does stanford/harvard look for.

While it’s normal to ask on CC about “chances,” when you’re talking about these high-tier colleges, we aren’t going to be able to give you a quantitative answer. The only thing I would say is, yes, you’re in the ballpark. You have a shot.

When it comes to these schools, everyone has the stellar grades/scores. So you can pretty much throw those into the garbage. It really is going to depend on your essay (and how you express yourself) and probably extracurriculars.

Thanks,
I’ve also heard teacher recommendations are, in some cases, weighted over grades in order to make borderline decisions.

Your SAT’s and grades are definitely good for Stanford, but like Cynicism said, there’s really no way to actually tell you…

HYPS are always random. -.-

Your stats look excellent! But whether or not getting accepted to Stanford is almost “random” and unexpected as I had heard from many teachers at my school. Like there was a kid who got accepted to Harvard but rejected from Stanford. He is doing excellently at Harvard though haha good for him.

Best answer: “You have a shot.”

Haha, thanks!

Weighted GPA and rank are low. How many APs did you take?

Saugus- you don’t what weight scale he’s using. Every district sometimes even every school in the nation uses a different weightage scale.

I’ve taken 14 Aps, does class rank and weighted GPA affect admissions that much. As in, if I am still the top 10% and have a “good enough” GPA, doesn’t the admission process really boils down to essay, recs, and extracurriculars?

Are you poor, homeless, orphaned, hispanic, black, or any underrespresented minority? If yes, then you are in. Stanford likes to be “diverse”. I went there (for my Ph.D.) and it seems the university PR machine was just as pround to have a homeless hispanic student as they were to have Bill Clinton’s daughter attend the university.
