Just getting ready to send in my app to Stanford and would like feedback on my chances. I'm from the Southeast, female, white, public high school.

SAT 2360 (CR 800, M 760, W 800)
GPA Unweighted 3.6
Weighted 3.8
8 AP's
4 Joint enrollment classes
7 years of math including AP Calc BC last year and Multivariable Calc this year
6 years of Spanish

EC's are pretty run of the mill

National Merit Semi-finalist and AP Scholar with Honor

Thoughts on whether my sub-4.0 GPA will be offset by a pretty decent SAT score? Also, will the geography of being from the South help at all?

Unless your public high school is one of the best in the country, that 3.6 is going to hurt you quite a lot.

I think that your GPA and “run of the mill” EC’s make it a reach. It’s tough for anyone though, even with perfect GPA, scores, and great EC’s. I would still apply but definitely have safeties lined up.

On Stanford’s website they list Academic GPA as Very Important and they list Geographical location as Considered.

Thanks for your replies. I’ve already been accepted at 2 safeties, but am also applying to Duke and Vanderbilt. Vandy seems to recruit National Merit Semifinalists as I have received tons of mail from them. I’m hoping that increases my chances there if I don’t get in to Stanford. Duke seems like its almost as tough as Stanford to get into, but I could be wrong.

what are your extracurriculars…?
