ok another one of your average stanford hopefuls. i wonder if i should even apply there because the application is so tedious. do i have a chance?

SAT- 750V,800M
SATII- 750Writing(plan to retake), 790IIC, 750Latin, 720US History, and i plan to retake biologyM because i did so bad the first (it's so low i'm embarrassed to say =/)

Williams College Book Award
National Latin Exam Gold Medals.
PSAT Commended Student (yea i know that doesnt mean much =p)
Some various school prizes
AP Scholar w/Distinction (yea that doesnt mean much either)
GPA 4.2...3.9ish unweighted - top 5% of class

All-State Honors Orchestra, plus A LOT of other orchestras
Varsity Soccer for two years, two years JV
NHS Treasurer (honestly i dont do much)
Newspaper staff (dont do much either)
Science Olympiad Team (Group Leader)
plus some other school stuff but i think those are the most notable

i have plenty of community service, work experience, and lab experience

I know people who application looked better than yours and who had wonderfull essays but they got outright rejected from Standford. But I also know people who your stat just stomp all over theirs and they got accepted, so I say there is a good shot for you.

AZ, I think your stats are very competitive, but there is a strong element of randomness in admissions. You should certainly apply to Stanford because you have a good chance, but there are no certainties...

I hope you get in. My son has similar stats for 2006, and if you get in, I will feel better about his chances!

I'm an asian guy from Massachusetts. Yea, i know that isn't too good because 1) i hear asians have the lowest acceptance rate and 2) stanford likes californians a lot more than people from the east coast. o well =/

First of all, asians do not have a lower chance of getting into ivy schools. In fact their chance of getting in are the same as white people. asians are no longer a minority in ivy schools so they are not given any special considerations when building the student body. Now if you are black, latino, native indian, west european ----- THEY WANT YOU. I don't know much about southasian indians though, they seem to be pretty popular with the ETS tests in the past few years.

if you think my opinions are politically incorrect, you need to get used to hearing races being mentioned openly and bluntly, because, believe it or not, they still play a major part in society. At least in the college application process.****

lol yea rite...if you think my scores are high, check out those princeton hopefuls who have 1600 800 800 800 800 800 800 800 800 800 800 blah blah....... anyway, has anyone ever heard of MENSA? Is that worth putting it on my college application? i was kinda curious as to what it was so i joined it, but i'm not sure whether its anything special? any more thoughts by the way? thanks

heh, mensa is good, but again... ec's can't just be lists.. what did you do in mensa? just a member = most people apping to stanford can get in.

o yea...70% chance? thats insane...im thinking more like 5...or maybe 25 at the max...70% is definately wayyyyyyy too high (although it would be awesome!)
