Do they really compare you to a list?

i dont think so. the adcoms specifically said that they judge you on an individual basis.

Do you still believe in Santa, too?

No offense, but I often email Ivies with these questions and my messages are based on their answers. period.

No offense taken. The thing is, if your read the college boards and see who was accepted this year, certain facts emerge. Whites and Asians with below average scores don't get into top colleges without something extraordinary. While almost all private schools do a very nice songh and dance about seeing you as an individual, they all come up with higher averages each year and the same distribution of everything from race to income. This makes it really difficult to believe in the individual ideal.

i'd say both of you are right. they want humans. extraordinary humans. and there are enough applicants who are human but have better stats than our tennispro fellow here.

That explains how I got in lol

I wrote a really, really weird essay...so I was a "character"; whether good or bad, I let them judge...

But then again, my scores were a little higher...

Go for it...you have nothing to lose (well, about 70 bucks...)

tanonev, check my e-mail :)

I'm in the process of replying...it's a long one...

o0o0o0oo0 share the e-mail? or forward parts of it to me if it pertains to this post.

email has nothing to do with this post...sorry...

Anyone else have any ideas they would like to share?

Who is doogie anyways? don't listen to us? sure why not, don't listen....we've ONLY gone through the freaking application process and had gotten accepted......sorry if I'm being a little rude but I was trying to be nice and encouraging before telling him it's not too late and that he still has a shot.

u know wut...id rather him apply and have a chance then take ur word for it and have 0% chance at all by NOT applying....u took the SAT's, u should know this

im kinda confused here. How do people know what a good SAT score is now? Are they just assuming that since a 1400 was good enough then a 2100 would be "good enough" too. Kinda confusing. How are people picking and choosing whats good and whats not? Might as well say a 2250 will u give u great chances, but thats not easy seeing as how the majority of the scores seem to be from 2000 to 21something on CC.

What are you bashing zagat for? tennispro posted his stats on this website, and is looking for feedback from the people on this website. Well, the majority of the people here are juniors or seniors going through the college application/admission process and having to come face to face with the realities that doogie311 is trying to avoid. I would be highly surprised if tennispro, who obviously is interested enough in Stanford to take the time to write this post and head it only asking about Stanford, to suddenly decide not to even apply based on the replies he got here. If he actually does, well then he can't really be that dedicated to his goals, and what kind of applicant is that? Anyone who posts his stats here is going to get honest feedback, and the honest chance of tennispro getting into Stanford with that GPA and those SAT scores, is in all honesty, slim. So tennispro, by all means apply. I really hope you get a miracle.

If you aim for Stanford - and it doens't quite work out - you're going to find yourself with some very good choices if you construct the rest of your list well. Considering your requirements, you should probably look for colleges that have engineering and business/economics as a first cut.

You may also want to think about an LAC that offers a cooperative program for engineering.

Ohio_Mom: What other schools are you talking about? And what is an LAC?

A LAC is a Liberal Arts College
