Hello! I'm considering applying to Stanford, but I kind of wanted to "test the waters" first and see if it's worth the $90 application fee.

-I have a 4.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
-I am ranked 1/460
-I got a 1940 on my SAT (i haven't taken subject tests)
-I am a sr. class officer
-pres. of spanish club
-wrote for city-wide student newspaper
-i've taken 3 AP classes (and 2 college-credit classes)

-from the northwest
-white
-both parents attended college
-middle-income

none of these factors really help me much unfortunately.

additional info that might help:
-i have volunteered at my church
-i am a key club member
-i was a leader in my school’s freshman mentoring program
-i was a presenter at a local student environmental confrence
-the student paper i wrote for recieved a local award for creativity
-i have work experience

Unfortunately, I do not think your odds are very high at all. Good GPA/rank yes, but the SAT is on the low side for Stanford and you don’t really have anything exceptional for ECs either.

You are a good applicant for many schools but Stanford is just very elite.
I would not think that the $90 would be worth it.

Stanford is highly unlikely unless the SAT score goes up about 300 points. Even then, you may not have the activities and accomplishments necessary. Your newspaper activity is nice but will not be substantial enough (any details on what you wrote? How hard is it to get selected to write?).
