Chances At Steinhardt Music Business

Hey everyone. Let me just say that I am obsessed with NYU and it was between applying early to cornell or NYU and I chose NYU because I just can't see myself anywhere else. That being said, I will be heartbroken on December 15th if I don't get in, and you'll probably read about a kid from Albany who throw himself off of a bridge. Just kidding ;). If you could be so lovely to give me your feedback.

-Early Decision(Hopefully this will HELP SO MUCH due to economy).
-White male. I'm very tan though so i was considering saying I was half black...just kiddng;)
-I need to send a tape in with 2 songs and a few other things. I'd say I'm a good singer(in a non cocky way). If I wanted to be a music major I'd have a really fair chances at getting into Tisch for music or even eastman or other great music schools.
-3.65 GPA. A tad low for NYU but I have taken all Honors and AP 10th, 11th and 12th grade, and that gpa isn't weighted since my school does not have weighted grades >:(
-My act's blow. I got a 26 last may, I just took them and I find out what I get tomorrow so I'm PRAYING I got atleast a 28. That would be amazing.
-I'm the class of 2010 Vice president for four years.
-Sports galore. I kinda didn't stick with football but I played for 2 years, and then picked up tennis my sophmore year and was captain my junior year.
-School Musical for 4 years. Leads junior and senior.
-3 School select choirs
-Select band(I play the bassoon...I wish I was actually good).....
-Over 100 Hours of community service each school years since 7th grade. I won the Presidential service award(national award for 100+ hours) 5 times.
-I went to music camp this summer at SUNY fredonia for a month
-Europe for a Music Trip summer of 08
-A bunch of other clubs and awards(national honors society, french awards, principle committee, youth court, key club and im probably forgetting a bunch of things).
-Worked various summer and seasonal jobs, and now I have a real job this fall.

So thats about it. Hopefully my ACT scores will increase but hopefully my audition will seal the deal? But give me your opinion.

alright someone bite…

Remember, 50% of your application is your creative portfolioand audition. My son’s doing ED at Clive Davis in Tisch. He’s an accomplished blues/rock guitarist who plays in a band that’s performed as the opening act for artists such as Derek Trucks of the Allman Brothers and Leslie West of Mountain. He’s appearded on several CD’s and this summer he was an intern at a NJ recording studio. He’s a 3.7 GPA (honors Physics and Chemistry; AP Calculus and Statistics) and a 28 ACT (first time). His creative for Tisch will be a CD of a song he wrote, produced and sound mixed as well as a video summary of his Starland Ballroom Halloween night performance opening for Derek Trucks. There is no audition for the Clive Davis program, so his portfolio is the non-academic portion of the application.
I’d focus on this part of your application and the audition as Steinhardt places a lot of weight on creative talent. The essay is also key…show passion for music and a strong desire to be within the industry. Best of Luck…
