what are my chances of getting into Sterns via ED? Also what major should I do, I can't decide.

Mattistotle,

You are a competitive applicant with a good chance. Be sure to get good reccs, and write a great essay.

You should without a doubt major in finance or econ (both premier departments at NYU)...you can also double major in another business related field of interest or have a liberal arts related minor in the College of Arts & Sciences.

Good luck!

-NYU class of '00

finance or economics?

what kinda of careers can you get in that?

I was thinking about doing accountant and marketing...

Pretty much any career you want I guess....those majors will open up to you, a broad range of job possibilities. Most people who study finance and econ. at NYU end up working on wall st....I'm an investment banker on wall st., though I majored in philosophy, completely unrelated to what I studied. Even though you'll be qualified for a wide range of careers by studying finance/econ at NYU, wall st. and financially related careers seem to be the popular destination.

Marketing universally seems to be known as a joke major in Stern, and the people who study it ususally major in marketing as a second major (in addition to finance). Its going to be hard to find someone at NYU who studies just marketing. Accounting is a very tough major from what I've heard, and is a niche field...ie. study it only if you want to be an accountant.

Good luck.

How is WallStreet, how hard is it to work there, get a job there, and how is the pay and the hours?
I've always thought about working at wall street but i don't know too much about it?

what would be better for wallstreet, economics or finance?

bump

i wish they didnt change over the forums, they used to be so much more active

Mattistotle,

I tried to address your question in another thread, since another person also had similar questions.
