Chances at Successfull Appeal?

3.0 GPA (low i know)
27 ACT

I wrote in my appeal letter about my struggles with mental health throughout high school and how Child Protective Services got involved junior/early senior year stunting my upward trending improving grades. I have recently won multiple exemplary scholarships from my school, was the first to win states for piano for my school and have placed first in the region/state for speech. I also have over 100 hours of community service.

I spoke genuinely about my experiences dealing with CPS and stated that although my grades do not reflect it, I hope through my other achievements that I have proven to be a very driven and capable asset to the school. I also stated that I respect MSU greatly because of their respect for communications and I would continue to work hard to bring them accolade as I did with my high school.

I realize appealing is very difficult but do you think I would have a shot? My grades have been on an uphill trend until first semester senior year when CPS got involved completely and I received many statewide and school scholarships since the rejection.

I think that if anyone has a chance at a successful appeal, you do. But I’ve never heard of someone appealing succesfully, so I don’t know if that really helps your case. Worst comes to worst, MSU is a relatively easy school to transfer into. If they don’t accept you at this point, what they are looking for is an example of academic success in college level courses. Go to CC or another cheap local college, get a 3.5+ GPA there and you’re almost guaranteed acceptance into MSU for the following year.

I agree with fa-la. I personally don’t know anyone who has tried, but you do have a compelling case. If it doesn’t work, try taking some classes at a local CC over the SUMMER and then applying in the fall- you might get in for spring semester even!

I called the admissions office and asked for statistics from last year concerning decision reversals. They said that they don’t keep records but basically they mostly look at improved grades. While my gpa has improved a bit I thought that for appeals they looked at special cases etc. I hope I don’t sound entitled in any way but could someone please help clear up the appeal process?
