I would like to know my chances at some SUNY schools, I'm thinking of Albany and Buffalo and I'm thinking of majoring in Business.

GPA - 80.5 (will go up after senior year)
SAT - R: 490 M:550 W:510

Work Experience:
I was employed throughout most of high school currently I work at a martial arts school.

EC:
Played on a team for 2 years

I'm thinking of applying early decision and if I don't get in, studying and and retaking the SAT's decemeber 1st and applying again. And also apply to a few other schools.

Hey i was wondering the same, im looking to attend a SUNY college. GPA is about 89-90, top third of class, played varsity soccer and track. A few honors classes, White Male. I want to major in business or accounting.

dadani- I think your GPA may be a bit low for the SUNY's. My d had an 87 average and ACT equivalent to 1060 SAT and she applied to SUNY Delhi as a safety. She lucked out and did get into all the 4 year SUNY's that she applied to, but her average was a bit higher than yours.
Do yourself a favor, have a SUNY safey on your list including at least 1 community college or technical school.
cover- I think you are in a much better position with an 89 average- assuming SAT's are ok.

Yes, Geneseo is the highest rated SUNY, very slightly beating out Binghamton. However, Binghamton is rated as a national university, while Geneseo is rated as a Masters' University, so some prefer to go to Binghamton for that reason.

The best programs, in order, for the schools I'm recommending are at:

(1) Oswego (just slightly, slightly above (2))
(2) Plattsburg
(3) Brockport
and then (4) Empire State

Also, you need to realize that certain schools are better for certain majors. For example, if you want to do an entrepreneurial major or a global logistics (supply chain management) major, then Plattsburg is your school. Brockport has probably the best accounting program. Finance is good at all three schools, and Oswego is best for marketing and general management.

The business program at the first three schools listed are good. Empire State is so-so, and is dedicated mostly to people who are a bit older and going back to college at an older age (and taking most classes on-line) to get their degree.

If you were going to go with an online program that is actually highly recognized, I'd go with either Thunderbird (Arizona) or Indiana University's program. However, I believe a program where you actually attend the college is preferable to any online program--and I recommend the SUNYs for that reason.

Good luck.

P.S. I notice that Brockport is doing a lot of braging about how their average student now has a 90 average in high school with a 1116 SAT score (out of 1600), which is up from the average of 84 or so that it was at just a few years ago. This might make the school a bit tougher to get into than I thought. Strangely enough, Oswego and Plattsburg are not making similar claims--and their business programs are just as good (or better) than Brockport's in my opinion.

Also, I don't know which SUNY has the absolutely best business program, although I would guess that would be Binghamton. Geneseo is mostly known for their liberal arts and scientific programs (although they have more business students there than science students).

I am under the impression that a lot of students at Brockport are from rural counties in upstate New York where schools are not as competitive. Some of the other SUNY colleges attract a lot more students from NYC suburbs. It would be interesting if there was a chart showing the geographic diversity of each school.

I am also going to apply to CUNY Baruch (where I would like to get into) and just incase I don't get into Baruch, Queens College and Hunter College.

Dadani--
I'm going to talk like a Mom now-- You should be optimistic and hope and strive for the best- but in reality, an 80 average may not cut it with these schools.
Please- Please - Please- have one real safety under your belt- be it a CUNY or SUNY community college
Good luck
marny

dadani- also look into SUNY Old Westbury on Long Island. They seem to have a good business program and may be a bit easier to get into than some of the other suny colleges.
You need a safety!!

Another option for a SUNY "safety" would be to apply to one of the Ag & Tech or Institute of Technology schools such as Canton or Morrisville. Both offer Associate's degrees in Business Administration and Bachelor's degrees in allied fields. You might, for example, earn the Associates in Business Administration at Canton, then transfer to one of the SUNYs with a strong business program once you've proved yourself academically.

Your SAT scores and 80.5 GPA are good to go at both Canton and Morrisville.
