Also Williston. Hi, I am a 10th grade student from Northern California. I am applying to boarding schools as a repeat sophomore for the fall of 2013. I am casting a broad net, and will be applying to: Andover, Deerfield, Choate, SPS, NMH, Kent, Taft, Loomis, and Milton. I play extremely competitive hockey, and have spoken with all of the coaches at the schools I am applying to. I play JV lacrosse as well. I do community service work, and will have 60 hours by the end of the school year. I work with elementary school kids in East Oakland, that will give me 50 hours. Plus I volunteered at a dementia center will elderly citizens suffering from dementia for 10 hours. My father passed away 4 years ago, so I went through a bit of a dark period, where everything in my life suffered, especially school. Anyway, My overall freshman gpa was 3.38, I know, very low. This semester I finished with a 3.5. I have interviewed with all the schools except for Andover, and have done extremely well. I am a very friendly, talkative, and nice person (not to sound cocky). My teacher recommendations will be good, and so will my school counselor rec. I got a 70 on the SSAT. I will be applying for F/A as well.
CHANCE ME!! THANKS

@NikDangles everything seems great. The only thing that jumps out is the 70, but being from northern cal and playing competitive hockey will be very helpful to “offset” those scores. Also your GPA is a little low for some of the schools your applying to, but as long as you told your interviewer you are working hard to better you are fine.

I feel that if you are applying as an athletic recruit you have a good shot at all of the schools you have listed. But if you are like me, and are not a star player in any sport, then you chances abviously go down. I feel your chances largely depend on how good you are at hockey, and it seems like your pretty good at it!

thanks guys. any others??

i’m having the same problem as you. my ssat score was a low 75, (im applying to hotchkiss, deerfield and st. george’s) i think my interview’s have gone well (im talkative and friendly) i i’ve talked to the all of the coaches (i swim all year round 10 hours a week and at all of the school’s would be on varsity and be one of their fastest butterflyers… (yes i know i misspelled that) i live in central ny, my gpa is 4.332 im in 8th grade, i go to a very good private school… i get a’s and a+'s in every subject, i play the flute in a quartet and im in a selective singing group at school where i had to audition and was 1 of 90ish peopler… do i have a chance at getting in???

Well since you go to a very good private school, and you get A’s and A+'s, most boarding schools would expected you to do better. However, being an athletic recruit always givey you an edge. Also, do not try to post too much information about yourself.
