Chances at the big schools?...

So yeah...Just another typical post...

Schools:
Duke, Cornell, WUSTL, Vanderbilt, UNC Chapel Hill, UMD College Park (local safety school, already accepted)

SAT: 2290 770 Math, 740 Reading, 780 Writing, 10 Essay
SAT II: 720 Math I, 660 Lit (Yeah...I know...)
ACT: None
GPA: 3.9 UW, 4.52 W (10th and 16th respectively for class rank)
APs: Government, Calc AB, World History, English Language (4, 5, 3, 4 respectively and all As)
Senior Schedule: English Lit AP, Calc BC AP, Chemistry AP, Economics AP, Spanish 5 AP, Accounting
Teacher Recs: One is hopefully outstanding...It was Spanish class where we were forced to speak it...no one really understood it except for me, so the teacher and I had a really good connection. The other is Calc AB where I was a ****ing angel as far as behavior and I destroyed the class, so hopefully another good rec.
Counselor: The counselor probably doesn't even know my name to be honest
Essays: I consider myself a pretty above average writer. I'm not a "dictionary.com writer" who uses a bunch of big words without knowing what they actual mean, but I definitely write eloquently...
Activities:
-Tutoring after school and weekends at the library (It's a school sponsored program)
-NHS community service (blood drives, fund raisers, etc.)
-Spanish NHS (Spanish tutoring after school and organizer of annual culture night), -National Art Honors Society (Art based community service-Murals, paintings around school, and organizer of annual coffee house/talent show
-Year round internship at local hospital, shadowing a doctor (about 8-9 hours a week)
-Math Team, Physics Team (2nd Place at last years UMD CP competition), It's Academic team
-Film club and men's choir for one year each
-Maybe some other things...They're probably small though

Strengths:...I would say SAT, but at my schools I feel that those scores are pretty standard
Weaknesses: Not so great GPA/Class rank, ECs ECs ECs ECs ECs ECs, Nothing special

If I'm missing anything please tell me and I'll post it. Thanks a lot guys!

yeah…umm…replies?

WUSTL, Vanderbilt, UNC - I think you’re in based on your scores and everything.
For Duke and Cornell you never know but you have a good shot.

Good luck :)

Duke/Cornell/WUSTL-Match
The rest-High Match

Good Luck!

Are you an in-state applicant for UNC? Male? Oops, just noticed your Men’s Choir EC.

I think you’re in at WUSTL, Vanderbilt, and UNC (if in-state; otherwise it will be difficult)- you have the scores and the ECs, just make sure the recs and essays are very good.

For Duke and Cornell, you have good stats and good ECs, but nothing that would REALLY set you apart (a lot of people do Spanish club, but the internship is very good).

Good luck!

Your GPA is not too shabby, and it’s 4.5+ weighted. Not bad at all.

I actually think everything in your application is pretty strong save for your SAT IIs which isn’t required at many private schools now (check which ones require them). Also, your extracurriculars COULD be seen as lackluster, but it depends on how your write about them in your essay. What do these activities mean to you? Be sure to convey their significance in your essay.

I’m going to have to say “reach” for Duke, WUSTL, and Cornell, because these are some of the most competitive/selective private schools and the adcoms probably distinguish an applicant from the next by looking at the involvement and achievement in extracurricular activities. Again, you have the numbers to apply; just be sure to highlight what was special to you in your activities. Then I’d say you’re a match for all.

Duke- Reach
Cornell- Reach
WUSTL- Reach
Vanderbilt- Match
UNC Chapel Hill -In

I wouldn’t say the OP is in at UNC. I had a 1540/1600 on my SAT, got into Cornell and Duke but was rejected by UNC. For OOS applicants, UNC is tough. I agree that Cornell, Duke and WUSTL are reaches. UNC and Vanderbilt are matches.

yea, take into account you’ll be applying to UNC out of state.

agree with alexandre that Cornell, WUSTL, and Duke are reaches.
you have a good chance with UNC and Vanderbilt (match) but do take note that you are oos for unc.
