What are my chances at:

College of Charleston
VCU
UVA (Grandfather taught there 25 years, instate)
Lehigh
Georgia Tech
Boston University
Emory

thanks so much...... let me know

hey...you go to godwin!! me too ^_^ this is brittany johnson btw; do we know eachother? i think you've got a good shot at UVA; you're in the center, you've got great grades, lots of activities, leadership positions, family connections, and good SAT's. plus, you're instate, which always helps. i'd be surprised if you don't get in. as for VCU, not only will you get in, but you'll probably be valedictorian. i don't really know much about the other colleges, so i can't comment on those. best of luck with everything-let me know how it goes!!

hahahaha oh wow that's so funny that other people from godwin are on here, i'm so embarassed being on this site asking for advice though, it's been really helpful though in the process, i don't think i know you though. but wow that's hilarious.

anyways, i'm not revealing my identity b/c i'd never hear the end of it from my friends about being on this site (they always make fun of me for it hahahaha).

but if you tried hard enough i bet you could find out who i am :)

no hard feelings.

haha, yeah, i have to agree with you on the don't tell anyone thing, i don't want to seem too obsessed with college but i'm nervous!! at least this site helps to keep me from freaking out until i hear from W&M (1 more week!!). i know of two other godwin people who are on this site, though, so at least we're not completely alone! ^_^ good luck with everything!!!

UVA- Decent chance. your GPA is very good, although I'm pretty sure your SAT's are below the average. But I've got a feeling that serious connection could get you in.
Georgia Tech- Good match
Boston University- Decent match. It'd be better if you raised your SAT's
Emory- Somewhat of a reach. Not a huge reach, but like BU...a higher SAT score would help.

i know SATs don't coorelate, but what about ACTs?

i have another chance to raise those Dec 10'th, and I got a 28 the first time i tried.

bump, let me know

College of Charleston- Match
My son was accepted there EA with almost identical SAT scores and 3.91 unweighted GPA. Excellent ECs, sports and work history. Admissions Office told us they are not considering the SAT writing score this year. We will be visiting next week.

thank you. do you know anything about any of the other schools?

VCU - Safety (60% female) Rolling Admissions
Emory - Reach
Lehigh - Reach
Georgia Tech - Match/Slight Reach (72% male)
Boston U - Match (59% female)
CofC - Match (64% female)

Don't know if you care about the ratio of guys to girls, but I added them in.

Why isn't VT on your list? Seems like a Match/Safety for you and a more highly regarded schools than VCU. Is it the Hokie thing? (No offense to any Hokies that may be reading!)

yeah, i'm aware of the guy to girl ratio at GA tech haha.

well the reason i don't really have much interest is VT is pretty much just the size of it, and the location. It's wayyy too big for me, and sort of in the middle of nowhere which i don't like that much...

plus... it has a lot to do with the "hokie" thing since my family has a lot of UVA legacy hahaha.

thanks for your opinions though.

Your objections to VT sound a lot like my son's. He wants a city environment. Blacksburg was too small for him. After we visited he said, the college IS the town. We're in southern WV. He does NOT want to be a Hokie, even though there are many VT alums here. He actually liked Morgantown better and prefers WVU. But he really likes the idea of College of Charleston. By the way, he loved UVA, but he can't get in with his SAT from out of state.

By the way, I think you have a pretty good list - 2 reaches (not ridiculous, though), 3 matches and a solid safety. I don't know how to evaluate UVA for you, but it sounds like a match with your connections.

Good luck!

thank so much for your help. good luck to your son in his college search.

can i get any other opinions?
