Chances at these great non-Ivies

Hey everyone, thanks for reading.

I am a white male at a large Catholic school in the midwest and am wondering if I have a chance at these really selective schools. Competition for most of these schools from mine is also pretty rough because almost everyone wants to go there. The schools are listed at the bottom.

Stats:

GPA: 4.2 (4.3 = A+ 4.0 = A), pretty much the most demanding schedule available to me

APs: US History (5), European History (4), Calc AB, Chemistry, English Language

ACT: 31 overall (36 on english, down from there), may retake in fall

SAT: 680 CR, 730 Math, 680 Writing (2090/1410), will retake in fall

SAT IIs: 730 Chemistry, 690 Math IIc, 620 World History, may retake in fall

Class rank: School doesnt rank but im guessing somewhere in the top 10% of around 400.

ECs: (starred are the ones I will stress on application)

*Varsity Football (takes up pretty much all my time)
Co-Editor of school newspaper
Student Counsil Representative
Business Club (May be president if club holds next year)
National Honor Society

Volunteering:
*Summer Mission Trip to Navajo Reservation
*Volunteer at local summer camp for children
Bunch of other stuff

I hope thats enough. Ask if anything else is needed.

Schools: (roughly in order but I dont really have a strong 1-4 I’d be extremely happy at any of them)

University of Notre Dame

Georgetown University

University of Virginia

Duke University

Xavier University

Ohio State University

Please be honest because I’d definitely be very happy at OSU or X, I am just wondering if I have a chance at the top 4. I was also thinking of applying to Northwestern, UNC-Chapel Hill, BC, or maybe even Penn (though a large stretch). Any comments or suggestions on those (or other schools) would be appreciated as well.

Thanks

Also, I was thinking of Early Action at UND and Georgetown. Any opinions or facts you can give me on that? Thanks.

You're likely not going to be competitive enough for out-of-state admission to Virginia or UNC-Chapel Hill.

O I wholeheartedly disagree w/ the above. (And I just called all 9 acceptances/rejects/waitlists in that experiment thread) He has a decent chance at UNC and Virginia. Bump up the SAT IIs to all 700s and either the SAT I or ACT by a little, and these are good matches. Especially w/ EA/ED. Georgetown is probably going to be a reach, but still not out of your range. Notre Dame would be in between UNC/UVA and Georgetown as far as likelyhood of getting in. But if you are going to be happy at OSU or Xavier, you have nothing to lose so shoot for the stars!

Anybody have anything else to say about UVA or UNC? What about UND?

bump

Any other opinions?

if you raise your standardized test scores and really concentrate on the georgetown essays, you MAY have a decent chance of getting in there. however, they get more and more selective each year--trust me, i was rejected and even had a recommendation from the university president.

but your stats are better than mine. good luck!!

Duke will be tough.

Might want to look at Holy Cross-very good Catholic school-1 hour from Boston.

Any last thoughts before I let this die?

The list 1a. UND 1b. UVA 3. Gtown 4. Duke 5. UNC 6. OSU (Honors) 7.Xavier (Honors)

Also, looking at my football schedule I saw that the team will be out of town on both of the ACT days (before EA). Will a 31 hurt me or not really (it seems like the average score at most of the schools). Where would I need to raise my SAT to have a better shot at these schools?

Will you be playing college football?

Maybe i could play at gtown but i wont be recruited by und or osu or anything like that.

AK, come on! A kid like you couldn't play at ND/OSU? Maybe you could just join my intramural team at ND then. Hah!
