CHANCES at these schools? Will chance you back! :)

Already posted a thread before, but didn't get any replies. Figured I might as well try again with my updated SAT scores. Will try and chance you back ASAP if you provide a link (just know that I am a little bit swamped with homework right now so it might be a little delayed ^^).

College List:
UMD-College Park (absolute top choice),
Virginia Tech,
Towson University, and
UMBC.
My parents (lol) seem to think that I should try and apply to a more prestigious college, should I? Should I be applying to more than 4 colleges?

Intended Major: History (possibly a double major with Polisci)
Gender: Female
Ethnicity: Hispanic (1/2 White; 1/2 Mexican)
State: Maryland

I go to a magnet school in Maryland, very competitive.
3.76 UW GPA (sigh)
4.62 W GPA
17/285 UW (Top 10%), 39/285 W (Top 20%)

SAT:
2140/2400 and 1420/1600 (superscore) 760 CR 660 M 720 W;
2130/2400 and 1410/1600 (best single sitting) 750 CR 660 M 720 W.

ECs (weaaaaaaak weak weak):
National Social Studies Honor Society (11,12 - Historian);
National Spanish Honor Society (10);
USHYEE (10,11); Freethinkers Club (11,12);
Environmental Club (12); Pennies for Peace (12);
National Art Honor Society (12);
Sole produce/editor for a weekly segment, "On This Day In History", which runs on our schools news broadcast.
Also an anchor for our school's daily announcements.
Nominee for the Maryland Student Page Program.

Not sure if this belongs under my ECs, but I'm proficient in a lot of Adobe programs since it's what I studied for my magnet program (wish I could've changed it, but oh well). I'm currently preparing to take the Adobe certification test for Photoshop and Illustrator. Which would be great if I was actually interested in going into graphic design, lol. But still--it's there.

Also had some extenuating circumstances (hospitalized for the first week of junior year, illness, outpatient treatment, dramadramadrama) that caused a slight dip in grades in my junior year, which will be explained in my counselor rec.

Also, am I competitive applicant for any of these schools (ie. would I receive merit aid lol)? I really don't want to leave college with loads of debt...

All of those schools seem like matches for you. And, yea, I’m sure you’d get good aid because you’re a pretty competitive applicant for these schools. If I were you, I might apply to an Ivy just for the heck of it. You never know. I think you’d have a chance because your SAT scores and rankings are pretty good. And you actually do have some solid ECs; you’re in several clubs and I think it’s cool that you’re an anchor for school announcements. You could write more about the ECs in your essay, and how they impact you, so that colleges won’t see them as weak. Also, remember, a lot of schools believe quality–and not quantity–is more important regarding ECs.

And please, if you can just click on my account and refer to my chance me thread, I’d appreciate feedback.

@97college Thanks so much for the feedback, just chanced you! :)

Bump ~

UMD College Park is a match and all the others are low matches/safeties. I agree with your parents, try for more selective schools and privates because they give more money. I don’t know what your area of interest is but University of Alabama would give you automatic full tuition. Good luck!

Chance me back!

Thanks so much for the advice; chanced you! :)

Match Maryland college park and vt
Other two safety
You could try something more prestigious.
Find other colleges you like, you don’t have any reaches

(Also if you could chance me back that’d be great can’t link via mobile phone)

Yes, you should definitely add some reach schools to your list. Your ECs are also not horrible.
You have a good shot at all of the schools you listed.
Chance me please!

I’m not here to tell you where to apply, but those schools are very easy for you to get into. I agree that you should apply to some more prestigious schools (ivies, maybe something like Stanford or uc Berkeley if distance isn’t a problem?). Chance back?

Definitely all matches. Only thatuis weak is your ECs but your grades are high were it doesn’t matter

Thanks for the input! I should have chanced back all of you by now! :)

definitely matches! you could always apply to a reach just to see what happens! like, one of the “public ivies” like amherst or john hopkins or UCLA!
