Good ECs, but the math scores are what's really hurting your chances at some of these schools.

P.S. Your Mexican-American status makes no difference at all the schools listed since preference based upon ethnicity is illegal for public California universities and colleges.

Calcruzer:

Do you mean my math grades or math SATs? If you didn't notice, my math score in October was 600, a significant improvement.

Well, actually I was referring to your math grades. If these were higher (like straight Bs), all of these schools except CSU-SLO would be matches.

Hopefully the schools will see the improvement in the math SAT score and realize that you can handle math, but that you just had some problem in the courses with one or two topics.

SoCalkid8807:

UCI/UCSB: Slight Reach
UCSC/UCR: Match

Calcruzer:

Thanks for the advice! In my open-ended essay for the UC, I am explaining how I have struggled in math since middle school, and how this year I have done a lot better (I have an A in finite math right now).

P.S. Cal Poly Pomona a slight reach??? I think I am firmly a match within their applicant pool numbers-wise, plus I live less than 10 miles away.

Yes, I agree with you. I was looking at the wrong statistics when I did that estimate. You are a safe match to match for Cal Poly Pomona, especially if you live close-by.

Please excuse me, but when doing over 1,000 posts I do occasionally make a mistake--this was definitely a mistake on my part. I'm glad you caught this error for me.--Thanks,

Good luck in all your applications. I agree that explaining that you are doing better in the current math class (especially if you can send this grade in before they decide on your apps) will definite help your chances.
