CHANCES at these UC's?

What are my chances at UCI, UCLA, UCR, UCSB, and UC Merced? I actually really want to go to either UCLA or UCI...but I doubt I'll get in.

GPA: 3.18
SAT: 1700 (I retook it, now I'm just waiting for the results to come in 2 more weeks.)
SAT II: Latin: 580 Literature: 570 US History: 560
AP: Ap Euro: (3) AP US (3) AP English (4) AP Psychology (4)
Class Rank: 114/499

This year I am taking 5 AP classes and one honors Latin IV class.
I also have Maxima Cum Laude and Cum Laude on the National Latin Examination and I am also an AP scholar.

I have a low GPA because I got really sick during my sophomore year and had to miss a lot of school, but i brought up my GPA Junior year to a 4.0 with AP classes. (:

I have about 50 hours in Community service, but no extra curriculars due to my bad health and other circumstances. (which I will write about in my personal statement)

Do I have a decent chance at UCI and the other UC's?

It’s really hard to say for UCLA, UCI and maybe even UCSB.

UCLA is a definite reach and UCI is pretty much a reach also. They only use your sophomore and junior GPA so what you’re taking now doesn’t really matter.

You’ll get into UCR and Merced for sure though. I know many people who got rejected from Irvine with a better GPA and SAT than you so really try to boost you SAT scores.

Your rank is also pretty high for a low GPA so I don’t know if that’s a good thing or a bad thing…

I had around a 3.5 GPA with a 31 ACT and got in everywhere except LA and Cal last year and from what I’ve seen and heard from my high school, the class of 2010 is uber competitive and hardcore both academically and with ec’s.

So I guess just hope for the best but don’t really expect too much. Good luck :)

What you’re taking now does matter! a lot of colleges look at the rigor of your schedule more than your actual GPA so although some are reaches none are absolute no’s. Try really hard on your essays and maybe something will stick out about you, Good Luck!

In at Riverside and Merced – the rest, no.

The UC’s will only care to an extent. Either way, your senior GPA is not going to matter until you get accepted.
