Currently a HS Junior looking to apply to some colleges like Berkeley, Cal tech, stanford, MIT, UIUC, CMU, etc. I know MIT and Stanford are a stretch right off the bat so those are just apps more for a comic nature per se. I have a 3.98 GPA due to one B+ in a semester final grade freshmen year haha. Moreover, I have a 35 ACT, pending SAT scores but highest so far was 1550. Also, I’m involved in math team and have won a medal and some other awards for it, scholastic bowl, student council, NHS, spanish honor society, and I play tennis. I also co-founded a CS club at my school. Me and my friends have also co-founded a non profit called Chicago Hacks and we are hosting an MLH sponsored hackathon for high schoolers on May 27-28 right here in Chicago. I have volunteered for 50 hours at a hospital as well as held a sales job at bestbuy for half a year. General awards and honors so far include gold medals for track and field, presidents award for academics, AP scholar, published poet, Winner of a hackathon, all academic team, etc. CS wise, my skills and knowledge include Java, JS, swift, HTML CSS, PHP, Bootstrap, NodeJS, MongoDB, AngularJS, etc. My teacher recs should be pretty good if I do say so myself. I’m Indian and I know that hurts my chances a LOT. Anyway, based upon this info, what would be chances roughly be for getting into such colleges for CS. My eyes are set on Caltech or Berkeley or CMU. I also like the option of falling back on UIUC CS close to home, but not relying on it as a backup as ik their cs program is extremely competitive. Anyway, I greatly appreciate whoever takes the time to read this post and reply with their sentiments, cheers!
Oh and for AP courses, I will have taken by the end of my HS career, AP HUGE, AP US History, AP CS A, AP CS principles, AP CALC BC, AP LANG, AP STATS, AP Physics 1 and 2, AP Physics C, Multivariable calc, AP LIT, Independent CS, AP GOV AND ECON, AP BIO,
I can highly relate to almost all of your application. I know all the programming languages you know (except for swift -don’t have a Mac), play tennis, and I am Indian. I also plan to major in CS, and I am applying to the same type of schools.
You have solid chance at all of them (that said, don’t expect to get into all of them as they are ivies). Just make sure to take Subject Tests and push the computer science hook. Find some safety schools as well
