heading to my junior year im looking at a few colleges. Iowa state, Illinois State, or U Kentucky. MY current GPA is 3.06. And im ranked 176 out of 420. I took the plan and im in the 22-26 range for act but my math is bad. Im in 2 honors classes and the rest normal i also have 2 years of spanish. My ec's are Varsity Soccer And Varsity swimming. and i have done a little community service but not much. If im aiming to high which i might be do any of you have good college choices for me in the midwest?
O i have a job to if that makes a difference.

o yea how bad is an F gonna hurt me. and does it look bad if i had a 3.5 freshman year uw and then i really screwed around sophmore year and it dropped to 2.6 then went back up to 3.0?

Well, you are really borderline for Iowa State and Kentucky, but you should have no problem at Illinois State. Your W GPA is probably right around 3.2 to 3.3, and let's presume for the moment you get an overall ACT of 24.

Looking at these schools individually:

Iowa State: average W GPA of admittees 3.45, (high to low, (25%-75%)probably 3.2 to 3.7;
average ACT range (25%-75%) is 22-27 with an overall average of 24.
I'd say you are squeaking in with your two varsity sports and improved junior grades (over sophomore ones).

Kentucky: average W GPA of admitees 3.5 (high to low, (25%-75%) probably 3.25 to 3.75, with an average ACT range of 21 to 27 and an overall average of 24.
Here you might be waitlisted and they will see if they have enough spots for you--and might see how interested you are in getting in (do you write them and send them your first semester senior grades, which are hopefully good, and ask them to reconsider admittance?--etc.). (Note that only 17% of students here are from out-of-state, so you'll need to somehow let them know you are really interested.) Oh, and I would try to get in here compared to Iowa State. They are both good schools, but the out-of-state tuition cost at Kentucky is about $2,500 a year lower than at Iowa State.

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I have a question though because i live out of state for kentucky would they give preference to the kid from kentucky over me who has basically similar grades and test scores?
