Casey2889-I think you have just gotten into the wrong crowd at GW. There are many serious students. They are just not as in-your-face as the partiers. My D also came into GW with advanced standing, high scores, etc. etc. She will be graduating a year early and using her 4th year to attend a prestigious grad school. It's an incredible cost savings and allows her to start advanced work in her area of interest that much sooner. You really should consider this option.

The funny thing about this thread is, I'm desperate to get into GWU for International Affairs. How hard is it to transfer to GWU's Elliot School?

stoneimmaculate:

i got into more prestigious schools this past spring (wash u st. louis, berkeley, UCLA, michigan honors...even NYU and USC are arguably better), i just wanted to go to school in DC so i chose the less prestigious school for its location.

you make a good point, but i really don't think i could stand GW for much longer...while things appear to have worked out for your D despite the GW degree, i still think it is a better choice (for me) to pursue a more respectable undergraduate degree.

MMoral:

GW is fairly easy to transfer into, at least from what I understand. if you look in the GWU Forum, there is actually a thread hosted by a ESIA transfer who is probably more helpful than me.

im still hoping someone who knows something about Georgetown priority transfers can comment here...haha, anyone know more about it?

Casey2889-I think you're hung up on "prestige." I know you will find plenty of partiers at these other "more prestigious" schools. So that's not why I think you're really thinking of transferring. I think you just want to have a higher U.S. News ranked school. I really don't think there's a significant difference between Georgetown and GW, as a matter of fact, several profs teach at both schools and have said as much. You will be happy to know that you have a very good chance of getting into Georgetown. I think it's quite easy to do so if you have a good GPA/statistics from GW. However, I think you should carefully consider that switch. I know many people who have gotten far with their GWU undergrad degree, not just my D.

That is something to consider researchmaven, but while the degree is the primary reason for the switch, I also don't like the environment of being at a city school...I never really did, but I thought it'd grow on me---and it hasn't.

I really like the more laid back suburban setting of Georgetown...it's feels quaint and more like a traditional "college town" than Foggy Bottom, which, by all accounts, is far from traditional. While having the White House, IMF and World Bank at your doorstep is insanely awesome to wrap your mind around, it's something I'd want more later in life, not my college years.
