I'm planning to apply to MBA programs in the next year. Curious about what people think my chances might be at the top programs. My basic stats are below. I expect I can write some solid essays and have great recs.

College:

Top LAC - GPA: 3.5 (history)

graduated with distinction

Work:

2 years of banking (analyst) at Lazard in nyc (restructuring group)

2 years of MM private equity (leadership position within entrepreneurial shop)

i suppose my question was more directed toward hbs, stan, and wharton. given my current work situation, it does not make sense to go to bschool unless I go to one of those three. Essentially, i was hoping i could get a sense of how realistic it would be to be accepted into one of those three programs.

ha, yeah, i’ve definitely spent a lot of time on wallstreetoasis in the past 4 years. not sure they’re business school experts, as half of the people who post there are juniors in college applying for ibanking jobs. thanks though

You mentioned you were Native American. Can you tell us from which tribe do you originate ?This may be of great help when evaluating you chances.

Felipz; Your stats should place you well at a top school. If you were just another smart white guy coming off WS, I’d say you are competitive. The Native American thing puts you over the top, good luck.

Felipz–Your scores and work experience are very competitive and you have an excellent chance of acceptance to a top MBA program.

That said, DO NOT go in saying you are part Cherokee. This claim is so absurd based on sociological data that the recruiters WILL check. If just one finds out you are lying you will be blacklisted from all top MBA programs instantly and will be deeply embarrassed.

To make this claim betrays a deep-seated misunderstanding of the history of American Indians and of class struggles in American society. And do NOT go in saying you are only part Cherokee, as race relations throughout US history make this claim even more unlikely.

Don’t embarrass yourself and risk ruining your career.

If you are, in fact, part Cherokee, I apologize. With your accomplishments, why not consider entering politics? Why work in the most conservative field of the American economy?
