Chances at top schools? Advice is greatly appreciated!

Hi everyone, i've been around the CC forums for the longest time now, but just got around to making an account! Before I post stats, if it counts as a hook, i'd like to list that both my parents are African immigrants who came here with literally nothing but the clothes on their backs, and have a very hard life story. Also, my father had a malignant brain tumor that was inoperable and was given six months to live, but magnificently he went into remission. A lot of the family struggles have taken a toll on me, but i've tried my hardest to pull through.

Rising Junior:
GPA: 3.9, Have been taking all honors and accelerated classes since freshman year.

ECs: Math Team, Robotics Team (Placed 3rd globally), Student Council, Class President, DRIVEN club (Club I started for motivated/driven students to help other students succeed) Shadowing a Neurosurgeon regularly, (VERY few non-medical students are allowed to do this), May do research at University of Chicago this summer with the director of the center of Cognitive and Social Neuroscience, Started fundraiser that raised more than $3000 dollars towards cancer research.

ACT: Took a practice test and got a 32, i've been prepping with PR and Barron's, feeling very confident that i'll match that or get higher.

APs are only offered to juniors and seniors, and there are only 3 available. However all honors classes are just as rigorous. Clubs are also very limited.

Class Load for Junior Year:
1 + 2) American Studies (Very comparable to AP US History)
3) Spanish III
4) P.E (Mandatory -_-)
5) AP Statistics
6) Honors Physics
7) Advanced Math and Trigonometry (Essentially Honors Pre-Calc)
8) Honors Biology II

I've doubled up on math and science, due to the rigor of our school, many of these classes are typically taken in senior year. After this year I will have taken 5 years of math.

I was very interested in applying to Stanford, Berkeley, UCLA, Northwestern, University of Chicago, Rice, University of Michigan and Washington University St. Louis.

I'm a legacy at Harvard, and have an uncle who works on scholarships and admissions, if that has any effect on anything.

I’m First Generation also, I forgot to mention it!

This is all great (and I’m sure that when the time comes, you’ll get into at least a few phenomenal schools), but unfortunately we can’t chance you yet, as test scores and junior year grades can make or break admissions decisions.

Anyway, keep working hard, and come back to CC in a year! :)

How are you 1st gen and a Harvard legacy?
