Chances at top schools (Stanford, penn, Harvard)

Just to clarify I’m not being belligerent in my opening paragraph. I am just looking for constructive responses. I was just trying to weed out the

  1. internet trolls saying I made up these statistics for an ego boost
  2. arrogant CC users who want to tell me my 4 years of difficult high school work are mediocre
  3. people saying “chance threads” should quit trying Bc they’re trying to cookie cut their ec’s or other facets of the application

I simply want to see if it is a waste of my time to apply to the top 10 schools in the country. If that is a sacrilege to some of pompous users of this site then by all means laugh in another forum but I’m simply using this to save time and money in the application process.

Thanks!

I don’t think you achieved #2, FWIW. But as someone who has gone out of his way to help many applicants, I did find it offensive.

By all means you should apply. I don’t discount your hard work or accomplishments. You are probably in the 99th percentile of all HS kids, or close to it. Unfortunately, that doesn’t get you that far at the top schools, so be realistic, and think about how you will present yourself and try to differentiate yourself.

More importantly, given that UPenn is likely a much better bet than HYPSM, you need to decide whether to apply there ED, especially given that the legacy hook doesn’t carry much weight RD. You might have a 20-30% chance cumulatively RD at HYPSM+Penn, but a 45% chance at Penn ED.
