Larmonely: You are never punished for going to a school that doesn’t offer a lot of AP classes. You just have to do your best with what is available to you. That said, it is BS if you get a chance thread and then rebut people’s advice. OP, if you knew so much about college admissions, you wouldn’t be doing a chance thread. If you do actually know that much, you don’t need our opinions. And don’t bump your thread if you’re going to casually disregard what people say.

For my chance:
You’ll be good for all of the UCs (sans Berkeley and UCLA), Pepperdine, and Pitzer. Claremont, USC, and UCLA are matches. Berkeley is a reach. Your chances at the rest are slim.

You’ve never done any EC math/science, so I don’t see what would get you in at Mudd, given that your test scores and grades are par at best.

You’re obviously a talented musician, but your application does not suggest that you are exceptional (you might well be, but your application just doesn’t show it). You have a passion for music, but Harvard, Stanford, and Columbia get loads of exceptional musician applicants who also have great scores and other talents. Your ACT is low, though in range. Your subject tests are well out of range of these schools.

A hook, by the way, is an exceptional talent or accomplishment that will get you in. Being black or an American Indian is also a hook. So if you have won the Intel Talent Search, done RSI, won a major national competition, are a recruited athlete, started a large organization, or competed on your country’s Olympiad team, you have a hook.

Sorry if i seem like a cocky jerk or w/e but it frustrating to see I’ve done everything possible that I can do where I live while having a life and trying to improve my standardized tests(im a terrible standardized test taker) I just hate seeing that my numbers can cause me to not get where I dream of going and have strived for. I appreciate the input from everyone! I just hate being defined by numbers lol

I’d say you can get into any school you want minus UCLA, Berkeley, Stanford and Columbia. I’d be UCLA and Berkeley at a 50/50. For Stanford and Columbia, since they are so high level I’m not sure. You definitely have a shot though.

Like me, I just don’t want people to know my topic and what I did my essay about so they dont’ “steal” my idea. I worked super hard on it so I’m hoping it can help my Ivy/Stanford apps

xigbar- thanks! Yea, those schools are always crapshoots. I just hope I get the lucky flip of the coin =)

Well the only hard ones for you in my opinion are Berkeley, Harvard, Columbia, and Stanford. The possible reach are UCLA and USC. The thing is, I know people who were rejected to Berkeley who never got an A - (and I’m really not lying), 2300 on the SAT, and great EC and essay. It was my asian cousin. Harvard and Columbia and Stanford are also extremeley hard for you. HOWEVER, i have to say that being accepted to at least one of the 6 schools i mentioned are high, and one of the four top schools i mentioned are moderate. Chance me back if you have time. and good luck

I know it gets frustrating to not get direct answers, but I hope you read mine. I honestly think that the low numbers might harm you, but seriously, your GPA is great and your EC is pretty good. Keep in mind that if you have a great essay and really show what you can do with your education, you will be a great applicant. I know this sounds overused, but not getting into Harvard for undergrad is not too big of a deal. Go to a good/decent school, USC and UCLA are VERY GREAT SCHOOLS you have a big chance at (imo), and do well then go to Harvard for grad. Well sorry that my chances are more based on opinion than personal experiential facts… as i said again good luck

chance me please for University of Pennsylvania

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME APPLYING TO UC SCHOOLS OUT-OF STATE!

I got into Berkeley and they socked me with a 50k per year price tag and peanuts for financial aid. The whole UC system is pretty broke and while it feels good to get in, unless you’re made of money or have a sick love of high-interest student loans, forget it.

Safe at Pepperdine, though I don’t know whether they fit your religion/politics. It’s supposed to be really hardcore Evangelical Christian/Conservative. But maybe that floats your boat.

You should be fine at USC.

Harvey Mudd is hard, period, but if you’re a techie with something cool to show them, then yeah.

Your grades rock. Nice going. Standardizeds could be a bit higher for Stanford/Harvard/Columbia. Have you considered working with a private Kaplan tutor? They are really expensive, but worth it, because they only cover what you need help in. I worked with one and boosted my math score 80 points, critical reading score 60 points, and writing score 20 points.

Interview wherever you can. Personality and showing passion and interest can help overcome standardizeds a bit, especially if you talk about your school’s curriculum and show your talents there.

Being from Nebraska makes you exotic at these places. It’ll make them take notice and could help a little bit.

Best of luck. Could you chance me, too? Mine’s called Crossing My Fingers. Thanks.

I did ACT 4 times and the one i got a 32 i had one-on-one help from a tutor. I’m not a great standardized test taker. I overanalyze which probably kills me

Stanford (early action): Major Reach. You have the marks, part of the ECs, the recommendation letters, and the essays (to the extent of what I’ve heard), but your standardized tests don’t match up. Additionally, Stanford gets many many talented applicants every year that yours do not match up with.
USC: Match
UCLA: Match/Low Reach due to OOS
UC: Berkeley: Reach
UC: Irvine:Match
Pepperdine:no idea
Pomona: Low/mid reach
Claremont McKenna: no idea
Pitzer: no idea
Harvey Mudd: low/mid reach
Harvard: High high reach
Columbia: High high reach. Read reasons above.

If you could improve your standardized test scores, it would help you greatly.

OP:
Thanks for the chance, but i dont know anything about cali schools, im from new york, must stay in northeast. Dont wanna give you false info.

Hey anyone wanna chance me?
Ivy League 2014/others?

Your ACT score is fine, but your subject tests will undoubtedly hurt you. That being said, you have wonderful ec’s, AMAZING grades, and seemingly a great applicant according to your recs, etc. Also youre from nebraska, which helps.

Overall, OKAY shot at Stanford + Columbia. In everywhere else
