Chances at Track/CC Scholarship?

Hi guys, I am a white male from MN that is currently a junior in high school. I want to attend a top college and run track there. I know that some of these schools don't give out "scholarships" but I know being a recruit can help admissions, here are the schools:
-Vanderbilt
-Harvard
-Yale
-Princeton
-Cornell
-Tulane
-West Point
-Air Force
-UChicago
-Washington University in St. Louis
-Rice
-Duke
Here are some stats..
Academics:
-3.99 unweighted GPA
-Ranked 3/606 at my public high school
-AP Calc AB and AP US History as a sophomore, 3 AP's this year as a junior, Will take atleast 4 senior year, rest are honors
-Hoping for a 34 ACT, not sure if I'm going to take SAT, should I?

ECs:
-Secretary of NHS, will run for president senior year
-Leadership position in the third largest FCA in the state
-All-Conference CC runner, captain
-Currently a varsity basketball player.. considering quiting to focus more on track/CC, get a job, and start my own club (ideas??)
-All Conference track runner, hoping to be captain
-Teach Sunday School every Sunday
-Member of my school's top band

My times are as follows:
All of these times are as a sophomore
-2:02 800m
-4:35 1600m
-9:55 3200m
Currently in my junior year of CC, only a second year runner and my best 5k time is a 16:35.
I have not being doing distance running very long and want to run a 1:56 800m and 4:25 1600m this year as a junior, what are my chances?

I wish I could speak with authority on this topic, but I can’t.

The reason I’m responding is that your times and grades are very similar to my son’s. So is your aspiration.

I’ve researched this topic a lot and my take is that it’s going to depend on your SAT/ACT scores and your spring track times. If you do well on your boards and break 4:25 in the 1600, I think you’d be a very strong candidate for the DIII programs like UChicago and Rice.

I think the Ivy’s might be a stretch unless you kill both your boards and spring track.

Keep up the good work–you’ve accomplished a lot. I’m rooting for you :)

Thanks for the reply! Yes I have ruled out the ivies unless I really drop some time this year. A really helpful thing to do is look at the school’s cross country roster and then research those kids’ high school times on milesplit. I have found that UChicago, Rice, Vanderbilt, and Tulane are pretty good matches for these stats. Good luck to your son!
