I understand my SAT is below the average for the school. Will this affect me?
Also I am applying early action will this also help?

I would say its a high match. 70% of students at UMD are in state, so the other 30% will be OOS. However, these out of state students usually show exceptional scores and GPA which you are lacking. Still, there is a chance, so high match. Btw, 90% of students at UMD have applied early action, so that won’t help.

I think you have a strong chance. My guidance counselor said that UMD is actually starting to look for more OOS students since they’re a school which is predominately populated by in-state students, just to flesh out their demographics - that could be good for you! However, that applicant pool tends to be a little bit more competitive. The SAT score may impact you a little bit, but UMD really does tend to look at an applicant very holistically. ECs are really important there, and fortunately for you, yours look relatively strong and consistent. GPA looks on target, it puts you at the middle percentile. Are your essays strong? It could help when it comes to the admission process. Don’t count out those short answer questions either!

It’s good that you’re applying early action, I think your chances for the Nov. 1st deadline are strong. Make sure the application (and all the other components!) make it in on time, because RD is a crapshoot for everyone, especially middle ground students, since that applicant pool also tends to be significantly more competitive.

Are you applying for an LEP program? I’d say your chances for, say, the school of Engineering, are lower. But, if you’re not then I think you have a strong chance of being accepted into your major of choice.

Good luck with your applications! Hopefully we both get some good news on the 31st! Chance me back? :)

I’m from Maryland, and I have seen students get in with less impressive stats. The fact that you’re OOS makes me doubtful. Focus on your essays because that’s all you can change now. You’re chances are ok

I think u have a pretty good shot at U of Maryland. Your SAT score is a bit low but keep in mind that this is not the only thing that admissions look at! U took quite a few AP classes, which will up ur chances and also ur on varsity. EA will def help. I would say that u have about a 70% chance.
