Chances at U of Maryland

GPA unweighted: 3.6
GPA weighted: 3.97</p>

<p>SAT: 1220 Im aware that the middle average for here is 1260</p>

<p>Freshman year I faced tough social anxiety which limited my academic performance and EC's. I fought overcome it and my grades as well as rigor of courses significantly increased. My essay is based off of this situation. This why my GPA is so low. Will Maryland understand this?</p>

<p>I understand my SAT is below the average for the school. Will this affect me?
Also I am applying early action will this also help?</p>

<p>Any reason why you’re not applying to, say, UCSC/R/M? Or you already applied to UCSC/R/M? UCs do not take in account freshman year…</p>

<p>I think youve got a 50-50 shot. SAT will hurt you a little, but your grades are in line or slightly above the accepted average, so i think that negates that. Your EC’s are decent and youre applying ea… Bottom line: you’ve got a solid shot.</p>

<p>@Catria‌ I think colleges are a little more understanding then what you think. My GPA is a 4.2 without freshman. Is someone’s grades as a 14 year old kid that huge that it causes a school like Maryland to go from a decent chance to an absolute reach?</p>

<p>Also I have a top ten percent class rank at a California distinguished school. Won’t this help?</p>

<p>I always thought UMD was harder to get in OOS…</p>
